At a carnival, you can try to ring a bell by striking a target with a 8.91-kg hammer. In response, a 0.411-kg metal piece is sen

t upward toward the bell, which is 3.88 m above. Suppose that 21.9 percent of the hammer's kinetic energy is used to do the work of sending the metal piece upward. How fast must the hammer be moving when it strikes the target so that the bell just barely rings?

Answer:

4 m/s

Explanation:

M = mass of the hammer = 8.91 kg

m = mass of the metal piece = 0.411 kg

h = height gained by the metal piece = 3.88 m

Potential energy gained by the metal piece is given as

PE = mgh

PE = (0.411) (9.8) (3.88)

PE = 15.6 J

KE = Kinetic energy of the hammer

Given that :

Potential energy of metal piece = (0.219) Kinetic energy of the hammer

PE = (0.219) KE

15.6 = (0.219) KE

KE = 71.2 J

v = speed of hammer

Kinetic energy of hammer is given as

KE = (0.5) M v²

71.2 = (0.5) (8.91) v²

v = 4 m/s

The reasoning in the passage is : ( C ) The spots are the result of interference, which happens with waves but not particles

Light waves

Light passed through a slit and projected onto a screen will form a pattern which is very visible and the pattern might have dark spots if there is some form of interference. Interference is present in waves and not particles.

Hence we can conclude that the reasoning in the passage is The spots are the result of interference, which happens with waves but not particles

Paul lifts a sack weighing 245 newtons vertically from the ground and places it on a platform at a height of 0.7 meters. If he t
d1i1m1o1n [39]

Answer:

B. 17.15 watts

Explanation:

Given that

Time = 10 seconds

height = distance = 0.7 meters

weight of sack = mg = F = 245 newtons

Power = work done/ time taken

Where work done = force × distance

Substituting the given parameters into the formula

Work done = 245 newton × 0.7 meters

Work done = 171.5 J

Recall,

Power = work done/time

Power = 171.5 J ÷ 10

Power = 17.15 watts

Hence the power expended is B. 17.15 watts

How efficient is a pulley system if it enables you to lift a 600.0 Newton engine 0.600 meters if you exerted 35.7 Newtons of for
muminat

Answer:

η = 0.882 = 88.2 %

Explanation:

The efficiency of the pulley system can be given as follows:

\eta = \frac{W_{out}}{W_{In}}\\\\

where,

η = efficiency of pulley system = ?

W_out = Output Work = (600 N)(0.6 m) = 360 J

W_in = Input Work = (35.7 N)(11.43 m) = 408.051 J

Therefore,

\eta = \frac{360\ J}{408.051\ J}

η = 0.882 = 88.2 %
