Consequentialism is more focused on judging the moral worth of out actions while deontological ethics focus on judging the action.  Consequences focuses on consequences. The utilitarian theory of Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill is an example of consequentialism. Immanual Kant was the first philosopher to define deontological principles.
