Jack and jill exercise in a 25.0-m-long swimming pool. jack swims nine lengths of the pool in 2 minutes and 19.5 seconds, while

jill, the faster swimmer, covers ten lengths in the same time interval. find the average velocity and average speed of each swimmer.

Time for Jack or Jill = 2 min(60s/1min) + 19.5 s = 139.5 seconds

Then, the average speed for each:

Average speed of Jack = 9(25 m)/139.5 s = 1.613 m/s

Average speed of Jill = 10(25 m)/139.5 s = 1.792 m/s

The average speed and average velocity would just have the same magnitude, so they are equal.

Further Explanation:

Average speed :

The average speed of an item is the all out separation gone by the article partitioned by the slipped by time to cover that separation. It's a scalar amount which means it is characterized uniquely by extent. A related idea, normal speed, is a vector amount. A vector amount is characterized by extent and bearing.

Difference between average speed and average velocity:

Average speed is a scalar amount, while average velocity is a vector amount. Average speed considers the complete separation voyaged, while Average velocity is worried about the relocation between two.

How you discover average speed:

Partition the complete separation gone by the all out time spent voyaging. This will give you your average speed. S = 56.67 {\display style S=56.67}. So if Ben voyaged 50 mph for 3 hours, 60 mph for 2 hours, and 70 mph for 60 minutes, his average speed was around 57 mph.

First of all, the average speed and average velocity would just have the same magnitude, so they are equal. Now, the average speed or average velocity is the total distance traveled divided by the elapsed time. For consistency of units, let's convert the time to seconds.

Time for Jack or Jill = 2 min(60s/1min) + 19.5 s = 139.5 seconds

Then, the average speed for each would be:
Average speed of Jack = 9(25 m)/139.5 s = 1.613 m/s
Average speed of Jill = 10(25 m)/139.5 s = 1.792 m/s

Determine the work done by the constant force. The locomotive of a freight train pulls its cars with a constant force of 15 tons
Digiron [165]

Answer:

5.92×10⁷ J

Explanation:

We'll begin by converting 15 tons to Newton. This can be obtained as follow:

1 ton = 9806.65 N

Therefore,

15 ton = 15 ton × 9806.65 N / 1 ton

15 ton = 147099.75 N

Next, we shall convert one-quarter (¼) or 0.25 mile to metre. This can be obtained as follow:

100 mi = 160934 m

0.25 mi = 0.25 mi × 160934 / 100 mi

0.25 mi = 402.335 m

Finally, we shall determine the Workdone. This can be obtained as follow:

Force (F) = 147099.75 N

Distance (d) = 402.335 m

Workdone (Wd) =?

Wd = F × d

Wd = 147099.75 × 402.335

Wd = 5.92×10⁷ J

Thus, the Workdone is 5.92×10⁷ J
