A large cube (mass = 25 kg) being accelerated across a horizontal frictionless surface by a horizontal force . A small cube mass

= 4.0 kg) is in contact with the front surface of the large cube and will slide downward unless is sufficiently large. The coefficient of static friction between the cubes is 0.71. What is the smallest magnitude that can have in order to keep the small cube from sliding downward?

Answer:F=400.28 N

Explanation:

Given

mass of large cube M=25 kg

mass of small cube m=4 kg

coefficient of static friction \mu =0.71

acceleration a of the system is given by

F=(M+m)a

a=\frac{F}{M+m}

Now Normal reaction between two blocks is given by

N=ma

friction tries to balance weight

thus f_r=mg

and f_r=\mu N

f_r=\mu ma

\mu ma=mg

\mu \frac{F}{M+m}=g

F=\frac{(M+m)g}{\mu }

F=\frac{29\times 9.8}{0.71}

F=400.28 N

Difference between weightlessness in space and weightlessness in earth
zubka84 [21]

In space we feel weightlessness because the earth's gravity has less effect on us. The Earth's gravitational attraction at those altitudes is only about 11% less than it is at the Earth's surface. If you had a ladder that could reach as high as the shuttle's orbit, your weight would be 11% less at the top.

viva [34]
Set up the problem with the conversion rates as fractions where when you multiply the units cancel out leaving the desired units behind.

( \frac{ 5 cm}{1 sec} ) *( \frac{1m }{100cm})*( \frac{1km}{1000m} )*( \frac{1mi}{1.6km} ) = 0.00003125 mi/sec \\  \\ ( \frac{0.00003125 mi}{1sec} )*( \frac{60sec}{1min} )*( \frac{60min}{1hr} )=0.1125 mi/hr

A positively charged non-metal ball A is placed near metal ball B. Prove that if the charge on B is positive but of small magnit
nordsb [41]

Answer:

D

Explanation:

Ball A is a non positively charged non metal while ball B is metal ball.

Given: The ball B positive charge of small magnitude

To prove: Balls will attract each other

IN this condition because of induction negative charges on the sphere B move to the side closer to sphere A,(induction charging) while the positive charges move to the side further away from sphere A. The polarization of charge on B will cause a greater attractive force than the repulsion of the like charges.

Hence the correct answer will be D .
