If a rainstorm drops 5 cm of rain over an area of 13 km2 in the period of 3 hours, what is the momentum (in kg · m/s) of the rai

n that falls in five seconds? Assume the terminal velocity of a raindrop is 10 m/s. (Enter the magnitude. The density of water is 1,000 kg/m3.)

To solve the problem it is necessary to apply the concepts related to Conservation of linear Moment.

The expression that defines the linear momentum is expressed as

P=mv

Where,

m=mass

v= velocity

According to our data we have to

v=10m/s

d=0.05m

A=13*10^6m^2

Volume (V) = A*d = (15*10^6)(0.03) = 3.9*10^5m^3

t = 3hours=10800s

\rho = 1000kg/m^3

From the given data we can calculate the volume of rain for 5 seconds

V' = \frac{V}{t}*\Delta t_{total}

Where,

\Delta t_{total} It is the period of time we want to calculate total rainfall, that is

V' = \frac{3.9*10^5}{10800}*5

V' = 1.805*10^2m^3

Through water density we can now calculate the mass that fell during the 5 seconds:

m' = V'*\rho

m' = 1.805*10^2*1000

m' = 1.805*10^5m^2

Now applying the prevailing equation given we have to

P=m'v

P = (1.805*10^5)(10)

P = 1.805*10^6 Kg.m/s

Therefore the momentum of the rain that falls in five seconds is 1.805*10^6 Kg.m/s

The weight of a cuboid box is 288 N. Find its mass.
zalisa [80]

Answer:

29.39 kg

Explanation:

From the question,

W = mg...................... Equation 1

Where W = weight of the cuboid box, m = mass of the cuboid box, g = acceleration due to gravity.

make m the subject of the equation

m = W/g.................. Equation 2

Given: W = 288 N

Constant: g = 9.8 m/s²

Substitute these values into equation 2

m = 288/9.8

m = 29.39 kg

Two balloons are charged with an identical quantity and type of charge: -4 nc They are held apart at a separation distance of 70
blagie [28]

Answer:

29.4 uN

Explanation:

The electric force between two charges can be calculated using Coulomb's Law. According to this law the force between two point charges is given as:

F=k\frac{q_{1} q_{2} }{r^{2}}

where k is a proportionality constant known as the Coulomb's law constant. Its value is 9 \times 10^{9} Nm²/C²

r = distance between charges = 70 cm = 0.7 m

q1 = q2 = 4nC = 4 \times 10^{-9} C

The negative sign indicates that the charges are negative. In the formula we will only use the magnitude of the charges.

Using these values in the formula, we get:

F=9 \times 10^{9} \times \frac{4 \times 10^{-9} \times 4 \times 10^{-9}}{0.7^{2}}\\\\ F=2.94\times10^{-7} N\\\\ F=29.4 \times 10^{-6} N\\\\ F=29.4 \mu N

Therefore, the magnitude of repulsive force between the given charges will be 29.4 uN

Suppose we have three hypothetical atomic nuclei: A, B, and C. Nucleus A has 7 protons and 7 neutrons. Nucleus B has 5 protons a
alina1380 [7]

Answer:

Nucleus A with 7 protons and 7 neutrons and Nucleus C with 7 protons and 5 neutrons are isotopes of the same elements

Explanation:

Isotopes are elements that have the same atomic structure but different molecular structure. An atom that has the same atomic number but different mass number are known to be isotopes.

The proton of an atom is the same as its atomic number while the sum of the proton and neutron is equal to its mass number.

According to the question, nuclei that has the same number of proton are isotopes of the same element. Therefore nuclei A and C with 7 protons each are isotopes of the same element since they have the same atomic number i.e number of proton = atomic number.

Their atomic masses of nuclei A and C are 14 and 12 respectively

Fish are hung on a spring scale to determine their mass (most fishermen feel no obligation to report the mass truthfully). (a) W
bija089 [108]

Answer:

1411.8 N/m

Explanation:

From Hooke's law;

F= Ke

Where

F= force on the spring

K= force constant

e = extension

But e= 8.50 × 10^-2m

F= weight = 12.0 kg × 10 = 120 N

K = F/e = 120/8.50 × 10^-2

K= 1411.8 N/m
