What's wrong with this setup is the substrate on which you have positioned the drop is "dirty and unclean" meaning it is not being dampened by the solution. This action can be corrected by comprehensively cleaning the substrate where the drop will be positioned.

Formation of lens occurs because the substrate is dirty and it can be corrected by proper cleaning the substrate on which drop is being added.

Further Explanation:

Proper thinking about any scientific problem, subject or content, observation, hypothesis, comparison, organization, prediction, experimentation, evaluation and application are included in wide term called scientific method.

Steps to proceed in scientific method:

  • Understanding the experiment
  • Pose a testable question
  • Research the topic
  • State a hypothesis
  • Design the experiment
  • Perform the experiment
  • Data collection
  • Draw conclusions

Experiment is a method or process designed for a particular purpose and is an important part of the scientific method. This includes both dependent and independent variables.

When performing the experiment, first drop of oleic acid or benzene solution is added and a lens is formed immediately. This occurs because the substrate on which the drop is being added is not clean and therefore it cannot become wet by addition of solution and forms a lens. This situation can be corrected by proper cleaning of the substrate on which drop of the solution is to be added.

A rock has a mass of 416 grams and when placed in a beaker of water, the level rose to 523 mL. The beaker was originally filled
vagabundo [1.1K]

Answer:

The answer is

<h2>2.55 g/mL</h2>

Explanation:

The density of a substance can be found by using the formula

density =  \frac{mass}{volume} \\

From the question

mass = 416 g

volume = final volume of water - initial volume of water

volume = 523 - 360 = 163

volume = 163 mL

The density is

density =  \frac{416}{163}  \\  = 2.552147239...

We have the final answer as

<h3>2.55 g/mL</h3>

Hope this helps you

Sodium hydroxide (a base) reacts with hydrochloric acid. After the reaction is complete, a pH indicator is added to the solution
fomenos

Answer:

hydrochloric acid

Explanation:

The hydrochloric acid in this reaction is the limiting reactant. A limiting reactant is the reactant that is used up in a chemical reaction. It determines the extent of the reaction.

Since the solution indicates a basic one after the end of the reaction, this suggests that more of the sodium hydroxide is still left unreacted with.

The reactant in excess supply here is the sodium hydroxide and the bulk of it is till left in solution.

ANSWER FAST, EASY POINTS
abruzzese [7]

Answer:

Water molecules pull the sodium and chloride ions apart, breaking the ionic bond that held them together. After the salt compounds are pulled apart, the sodium and chloride atoms are surrounded by water molecules, as this diagram shows. Once this happens, the salt is dissolved, resulting in a homogeneous solution.

What is the mass of arsenic that is contained in a 50.0 g sample if the concentration is 5 ppm?
faltersainse [42]

<u>Answer:</u> The mass of arsenic found in the sample is 0.25 mg

<u>Explanation:</u>

ppm is the amount of solute (in milligrams) present in kilogram of a solvent. It is also known as parts-per million.

To calculate the ppm of oxygen in sea water, we use the equation:

\text{ppm}=\frac{\text{Mass of solute}}{\text{Mass of solution}}\times 10^6

Both the masses are in grams.

We are given:

Concentration of arsenic = 5 ppm

Mass of sample = 50 g

Putting values in above equation, we get:

5=\frac{\text{Mass of arsenic}}{50g}\times 10^6\\\\\text{Mass of arsenic}=\frac{5\times 50}{10^6}=0.00025g=0.25mg

<u>Conversion factor used:</u>  1 g = 1000 mg

Hence, the mass of arsenic found in the sample is 0.25 mg
