Answer : The percent yield of water is, 87.87%

Solution : Given,

Mass of hydrogen = 11 g

Mass of oxygen = 95 g

Molar mass of hydrogen, H_2 = 2 g/mole

Molar mass of oxygen, O_2 = 32 g/mole

Molar mass of water, H_2O = 18 g/mole

Experimental yield of water = 87 g

First we have to calculate the moles of hydrogen and oxygen.

\text{ Moles of }H_2=\frac{\text{ Mass of }H_2}{\text{ Molar mass of }H_2}=\frac{11g}{2g/mole}=5.5moles

\text{ Moles of }O_2=\frac{\text{ Mass of }O_2}{\text{ Molar mass of }O_2}=\frac{95g}{32g/mole}=2.97moles

Now we have to calculate the moles of water.

The given balanced reaction is,

2H_2+O_2\rightarow 2H_2O

As, 2 moles of hydrogen react with 1 mole of oxygen

So, 5.5 moles of hydrogen reaction with \frac{5.5}{2}=2.75 moles of oxygen

That means, oxygen is in excess amount and hydrogen is in limited amount. So, we are dealing with the limiting reagent for the calculation of moles of water.

Now we have to calculate the moles of water form the reaction.

As, 2 moles of hydrogen react to give 2 moles of water

So, 5.5 moles of hydrogen react to give 5.5 moles of water

Now we have to calculate the mass of water.

\text{Mass of }H_2O=\text{Moles of }H_2O\times \text{Molar mass of }H_2O

\text{Mass of }H_2O=(5.5moles)\times (18g/mole)=99g

The theoretical yield of water = 99 g

Now we have to calculate the percent yield of water.

% yield of water = \frac{\text{ Experimental yield}}{\text{ Theoretical yield}}\times 100

% yield of water = \frac{87g}{99g}\times 100=87.87\%

Therefore, the percent yield of water is, 87.87%

A 60.0 g block of iron that has an initial temperature of 250. °C and 60.0 g bloc of gold that has an initial temperature of 45.
Maslowich

Answer:

The final temperature at the equilibrium is 204.6 °C

Explanation:

Step 1: Data given

Mass of iron = 60.0 grams

Initial temperature = 250 °C

Mass of gold = 60.0 grams

Initial temperature of gold = 45.0 °C

The specific heat capacity of iron = 0.449 J/g•°C

The specific heat capacity of gold = 0.128 J/g•°C.

Step 2: Calculate the final temperature at the equilibrium

Heat lost = Heat gained

Qlost = -Qgained

Qiron = -Qgold

Q=m*c*ΔT

m(iron) * c(iron) *ΔT(iron) = -m(gold) * c(gold) *ΔT(gold)

⇒with m(iron) = the mass of iron = 60.0 grams

⇒with c(iron) = the specific heat of iron = 0.449 J/g°C

⇒with ΔT(iron)= the change of temperature of iron = T2 - T1 = T2 - 250.0°C

⇒with m(gold) = the mass of gold= 60.0 grams

⇒with c(gold) = the specific heat of gold = 0.128 J/g°C

⇒with ΔT(gold) = the change of temperature of gold = T2 - 45.0 °C

60.0 *0.449 * (T2 - 250.0) = -60.0 * 0.128 * (T2 - 45.0 )

26.94 * (T2 - 250.0) = -7.68 * (T2 - 45.0)

26.94T2 - 6735 = -7.68T2 + 345.6

34.62T2 = 7080.6

T2 = 204.5 °C

The final temperature at the equilibrium is 204.6 °C

What is the likely impact of water's high specific heat on life on Earth? (3 points)
statuscvo [17]

Answer:

Marine life is least affected by the temperature fluctuations of the atmosphere.

Explanation:

The high specific heat capacity of water means that it takes much more energy to raise the temperatures of water by one (1) degree than land. This means that on a hot sunny day, land temperatures would increase dramatically while ocean temperatures would only rise slightly. Conversely,  at night, the land cools rapidly while oceans cool slowly hence the temperatures drop slightly.
