Which of the following effects is produced by the high surface tension of water? Which of the following effects is produced by t
Mashcka [7]

Answer:

A water strider can walk along the surface of earth due to the surface tension of water.

Explanation:

Fluids have a tendency to shrink to minimum possible surface area and this is called surface tension. It usually occurs due to the greater force of cohesion between molecules of same substance when compared to adhesive force between molecules of different substances. Objects with greater densities can float along water surface due to the role played by surface tension.

When insects walk along the water surface they are pulled down due to gravity. But the force of attraction between the legs of the insect and water molecules is minimal. Thus the surface tension would always tend to maintain the flatness of water overcoming the push by the legs of the strider.

When the insect’s weight pulls it down , the surface tension pushes it upwards overcoming this force of gravity. This is how water striders move along the surface of water.

How significant is air resistance for projectile motion?
miv72 [106K]

Answer:

Air resistance have some significant role in projectile motion if the motion lasts for some time.

Explanation:

 • Air resistance or air drag seems to be important in daily actvities and games like baseball.
 • The trajectory of the projectile with or without air resistance or air drag is totally different.
 • When we neglect air drag, the only acting force is gravity against the motion so the maximum height and range are suppose Hmax and R.
 • Now, when we consider air drag, it is important to notice that there are two forces against the motion of the ball and along the direction of gravity. It seems that both maximum height and range are lesser Hmax'< Hmax and R'<R.

A 75-kilogram hockey player is skating across the ice at a speed of 6.0 meters per second. What is the magnitude of the average
saveliy_v [14]

Answer:

(3) 690 N

Explanation:

Force: This is the product of mass and acceleration of a body. The S.I unit of force is Newton(N).

The formula for force is given as,

F = ma..................... Equation 1

Where F = force, m = mass, a = acceleration.

Also,

a = (v-u)/t................... Equation 2

Where v = Final velocity, u = initial velocity, t = time.

Given: u = 6.0 m/s, v = 0 m/s (bring to stop), t = 0.65 s.

Substitute into equation 2

a = (0-6)/0.65

a = -6/0.65

a = -9.23 m/s²

Also given: m = 75 kg

Substitute again into equation 1

F = 75(-9.23)

F = -692.25 N

The negative sign tells that the force oppose the motion of the player

F ≈ 690 N

Hence the right option is (3) 690 N
