Two factors determine whether a substance is a solid, a liquid, or a gas:

1) The kinetic energies of the particles (atoms, molecules, or ions) that make up a substance. Kinetic energy tends to keep the particles moving apart. '

2) The attractive inter molecular forces between particles that tend to draw the particles together.

Explanation:

A matter is a substance that has some mass and that also occupies volume. A matter can be present in solid, liquid or gaseous state.

These states are determined by the intermolecular forces present in the substance and the spaces or kinetic energy of the particles.

 • As in solid state, the molecules are held together by strong intermolecular forces of attraction. Hence, they have least kinetic energy and have fixed shape and volume.
 • In liquids, molecules are slightly away from each other and their molecules have some kinetic energy because of which they are able to slide past each other. Liquids do not have a fixed shape but they do have fixed volume.
 • In gases, molecules are farther apart from each other as they are held together by weak Vander waal forces. As a result, they have high kinetic energy and rapidly collide with each other. So, gases are able to diffues at a faster rate.

A particle that has the electron configuration 1s²2s²2p³ would:
notka56 [123]

Answer:

Have 2 filled orbitals and 3 partially filled orbitals.

Explanation:

Hello there!

In this case, according to the given information of the electron configuration for that particle; it is possible for us to infer it has 5 valence electrons, as the electrons on its outermost shell (2). Moreover, we undertand this particle needs three bonds, does not have neither the electron configuration of a noble gas which ends by p⁶ nor that of an alkali earth metal as it ends by s².

Therefore, we infer the correct answer is Have 2 filled orbitals and 3 partially filled orbitals because according to the Hund's rule, the s orbital is fulfilled and the p orbital has 1 electron orbital fulfilled and two partially filled orbitals.

Regards!

Damm [24]

Heres a list of questions

1. Define atom.

Atom is the smallest particle of a substance.

2. What are the subatomic particles found in an atom?

The subatomic particles found in an atom are electrons, protons, and neutrons.

3. Define charged particle.

Charged particle is a particle that has an electric charge.

4. Define electric charge.

Electric charge is the physical property of particles such as electrons and protons. Electric charge causes other particles to experience a force.

5. What are the charged particles found in an atom?

Electrons and protons are the charged particles found in an atom.

6. What are the different types of charged particles?

Charged particles are of two types: positive charges and negative charges.

7. What are the negatively charged particles in an atom?

Electrons are the negatively charged particles in an atom.

8. What are the positively charged particles in an atom?

Protons are the positively charged particles in an atom.

9. What is the mass of an electron?

The mass of an electron is 9.107 × 10-31 kilograms.

10. What is the mass of a proton?

The mass of a proton is 1.672 × 10-27kilograms.

11. Define atomic number.

The total number of protons in the nucleus of an atom is called atomic number.

12. Define neutron number.

The total number of neutrons in the nucleus of an atom is called neutron number.

13. Define mass number.

Mass number is the total number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom.

Mass number can be mathematically written as

In a _______ reaction, the compound breaks down; in a _______ reaction, a single compound is assembled from two or more substanc
Alexxx [7]
It's letter C. When ever you read "breaks down" always think decomposition. When you read that compound get together to form "a single" compound, think synthesis.
