Two factors determine whether a substance is a solid, a liquid, or a gas:

1) The kinetic energies of the particles (atoms, molecules, or ions) that make up a substance. Kinetic energy tends to keep the particles moving apart. '

2) The attractive inter molecular forces between particles that tend to draw the particles together.

Explanation:

A matter is a substance that has some mass and that also occupies volume. A matter can be present in solid, liquid or gaseous state.

These states are determined by the intermolecular forces present in the substance and the spaces or kinetic energy of the particles.

 • As in solid state, the molecules are held together by strong intermolecular forces of attraction. Hence, they have least kinetic energy and have fixed shape and volume.
 • In liquids, molecules are slightly away from each other and their molecules have some kinetic energy because of which they are able to slide past each other. Liquids do not have a fixed shape but they do have fixed volume.
 • In gases, molecules are farther apart from each other as they are held together by weak Vander waal forces. As a result, they have high kinetic energy and rapidly collide with each other. So, gases are able to diffues at a faster rate.

Values for the molar mass of nitrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen dioxide molecules are given in the table below. What mass of nitroge
Gnoma [55]

Answer:

A). 92.02g

Explanation:

Equation of the reaction;

N2 (g)+ 2O2(g)------> 2NO2(g)

Note that the balanced reaction equation is the first step in solving any problem on stoichiometry. Once the reaction equation is correct, the question can be easily solved.

Reaction of one mole of nitrogen gas with two moles of oxygen gas yields two moles of nitrogen dioxide.

Mass of two moles of nitrogen dioxide= 2[14 + 2(16)] = 2[14+32]= 2[46]= 92 gmol-1

Therefore; Mass of two moles of nitrogen dioxide is 92

Convert the following with the correct number of significant figures:
larisa [96]

Answer:

1.78 × 10⁹ μg

Explanation:

We have to convert 1.78 kg to μg.

Step 1: Convert 1.78 kilograms to grams

We will use the conversion factor 1 kg = 10³ g.

1.78 kg × 10³ g/1 kg = 1.78 × 10³ g

Step 2: Convert 1.78 × 10³ grams to micrograms

We will use the conversion factor 1 g = 10⁶ μg.

1.78 × 10³ g × 10⁶ μg/1 g = 1.78 × 10⁹ μg
