A projectile of mass m1 moving with speed v1 in the +x direction strikes a stationary target of mass m2 head-on. The collision i

s elastic. Use the Momentum Principle and the Energy Principle to determine the final velocities of the projectile and target, making no approximations concerning the masses. (Use the following as necessary: m1, m2, and v1.)

Answer:

v''=\frac{2m_{1}v_{1}}{m_{1}+m_{2}}

v' = \frac{m_{1}-m_{2}}{m_{1}+m_{2}}v_{1}

Explanation:

first mass, m1

second mass, m2

initial velocity of m1 is v1.

initial velocity of m2 is zero.

Let the final velocity of m1 is v' and the final velocity of m2 is v''.

Collision is elastic so the coefficient of restitution is 1.

By using the conservation of momentum

m1 x v1 + m2 x 0 = m1 x v + m2 x v''

m1 v1 = m1 v' + m2 v'' .... (1)

by the formula of coefficient of restitution

1=\frac{v''-v'}{v_{1}-0}

v1 = v'' - v' .... (2)

So, v' = v'' - v1 put in equation (1)

m1 v1 = m1 x (v'' - v1) + m2 v''

m1 v1 = m1 v'' - m1 v1 + m2 v''

2 m1 v1 = (m1 + m2) v''

v''=\frac{2m_{1}v_{1}}{m_{1}+m_{2}}

so,

v' = \frac{2m_{1}v_{1}}{m_{1}+m_{2}}-v_{1}

v' = \frac{m_{1}-m_{2}}{m_{1}+m_{2}}v_{1}

What is the kinetic energy of a 400kg house that is racing around a track at 17 meters per second?
nasty-shy [4]

Kinetic energy = (1/2) (mass) (speed squared)

Kinetic energy = (1/2) (400 kg) (17 m/s)²

Kinetic energy = (1/2) (400 kg) (289 m²/s²)

<em>Kinetic energy = 57,800 Joules</em>

(That's some amazing house.  I'd like to be there to see it.)

Reil [10]

Answer:

i = 61 degree

Explanation:

Given,

\alpha =45^{o}

Now, by the snell's law

sin\theta_c=\frac{1}{n}\\sin\theta_c=\frac{1}{2.450}\\\theta_c=24.09^o

Now,

Sin i / sin r = n 2 / n 1

sin i / sin r (45 - 24.09) = 2.45 / 1

i = 60.97 degree

BaLLatris [955]

Answer:

282 m

Explanation:

Given:

v₀ = 20.1 m/s

v = 33.2 m/s

t = 10.6 s

Find: Δx

Δx = ½ (v + v₀) t

Δx = ½ (33.2 m/s + 20.1 m/s) (10.6 s)

Δx ≈ 282 m

natima [27]
The appropriate response is the third one. A generator is utilized to enact the control poles which contain radioactive isotopes. Once initiated, these isotopes start an atomic splitting chain response. Water in a cooling tank monitors the rate of response as electrons radiated from the response are encouraged through wires to homes and organizations.
