After the caterpillar eats a
leaf, it can convert the chemical energy into mechanical energy to help build a
cocoon. The leaf as their source of food contains mostly of starch and
cellulose. This must be break down into smaller compounds by enzymes. The smaller
compounds will enter into the different parts of the caterpillars’ body for
nutrition. The nutrients that are received by its body will be used for other
body processes such as movement in building a cocoon.
