A typical pencil has an average length of 15.0 cm and an average mass of 10.0 g. Assume the tip of the pencil does not slip as i

t falls.
1. What is the angular acceleration of the pencil when it makes an angle of 10.0 degrees with the vertical? Express your answer numerically in radians per second squared to three significant figures.

Answer:

α = 17.0 rad/s²

Explanation:

For this problem let's use the torque expression

         τ = I α

Torque is the product of force by the distance that is half the length of the pencil

        τ = F x

Let's use trigonometry

        sin 10 = x / (l / 2)

        x = l / 2 sin 10

        τ = mg l /2  sin 10

The moment of inertia of pencil that we approximate as a rod with the axis of rotation at one end

          I = 1/3 m L²

 We replace

          mg l / 2 sin 10 = 1/3 m l² α

           α = 3/2 g/l  sin 10

Let's reduce the magnitudes to the SI system

            l = 15.0 cm = 0.150 m

           m = 10.0 g = 0.0100 kg

Let's calculate

            α = 3/2 9.8 / 0.150 sin 10

            α = 17.0 rad/s²

1. Two blocks travel along a level frictionless surface. Block A is initially moving to the right at 5.0 m/s, while block B is i
ad-work [718]

Answer: 2.67 m/s

Explanation:

Given

Mass of block A  is m_a=2\ kg

mass of block B is m_b=3\ kg

The initial velocity of block A u_a=5\ m/s

the initial velocity of block B is u_b=0

After collision velocity of block A is v_a=1\ m/s

Conserving momentum

m_au_a+m_bu_b=m_av_a+m_bv_b\\\\2\times 5+3\times0=2\times 1+3\times v_b\\\\v_b=\dfrac{8}{3}=2.67\ m/s

The momentum of block A after the collision is P_a=2\times 1=2\ kg.m/s

Therefore, there is no change in sign.

What are the two main types of energy?
djyliett [7]

Answer:

Fourth option

Explanation:

They're many different types of energy, from chemical and mechanical to heat and solar energy. But the two most basic types of energy are "kinetic and potential energy" or the fourth option. Kinetic energy is the energy an object has when it is in motion, while potential energy is the energy an object has when it's as rest. These two specific types of energies are the most basic and you can even convert them into many different types of energies, like heat or electrical energy.

Hope this helps.

A motorcycle is traveling east at a rate of 56mph.it take 6.7 s for it to decrease its speed to 35mph. How far does the motorcyc
Phantasy [73]
Initial speed = 56mph
Final speed = 35mph

Time taken = 6.7seconds...

Converting the time to hour.. Divide by 3600..
= 6.7/3600

=0.00186hour..

Acceleration = v-u/t

a = 35-56/0.00186
a = -11283.6mph²

The negative sign shows that it decelerated...

V² = u²+2as

(35)² = (56)² + 2×-11283.6×s
Where s is the distance covered within that time...

1225 = 3136 - 22567.2s

22567.2s = 3136-1225

22567.2s = 1911

S = 1911/22567.2

S = 0.08468miles...

But at the end of the question we were made to understand that 1miles = 5280ft

Therefore 0.08468miles = (0.08468×5280)ft

= 447. 11feets...

Which is approximately 447ft.....

Hope this helped.... ?

How fast is a 90kg man running if his kinetic energy is 720 J?
zheka24 [161]
Answer:
4 m/s
Explanation:
KE=1/2mv^2
720=1/2(90)
720=45v^2
divide by 45
16= v^2
over the square root
4=v
v= 4m/s
