Oxidation is a process which involves losing electrons in a reaction by an ion, atom or a molecule. It happens when the oxidation state of the ion, atom or the molecule is being increased. Chloride anions has an oxidation state of -1 and dichlorine has an oxidation state of zero or neutral charge. The balanced half-reaction would be written as:

2Cl- = Cl2 + 2e-

To balance the charge on both sides, two electrons should be produced or released by the anion form of chlorine. Being oxidized would mean that the charge of the ion or molecule is being increased. In this case, it is increased from -1 to 0.

Which answer correctly ranks the atoms in terms of decreasing electronegativity (the highest electronegativity first)? which ans
Degger [83]

Answer:

O, N, C, H

Explanation:

Electronegativity of an element is the property that combines the ability of its atom to lose or gain electrons. It measures the relative tendency with which the atoms of the element attracts valence electrons in a chemical bond.

On the periodic table, Electronegativity increases across the period but decreases down a group.

To solve the given problem, let us use thE Pauling's table of electronegativities to compare the electronegativities of the elements.

On the table:

C = 2.5

H = 2.1

O = 3.5

N = 3.0

In terms of decreasing electronegativities, the atoms are arranged as:

O N C H

Why does a liquid’s rate of evaporation increase when the liquid is heated?
Troyanec [42]

the conversion of liquid to vapours is a change in state of a system from one state to other

there are basic two differences between three states of matter

1. thermal energy: gas has highest thermal energy tthen liquid and least us of solids

2. intermolecular forces of attractions

solids have highest intermolecular forces of attraction , then liquid and least in gas

sovas we increase the temperature the forces if attraction decrease s and thermal energy increases.

So when we heat liquid more moleculws gets energised attaining thermal motion in the range of gas thus the rate if evaporation increases.
