Speed and velocity is a scalar and vector quantity of a similar parameter, respectively. They both refer to how fast an object moves. However, the speed only has to do with the magnitude. The velocity takes into account the sign which indicates the direction of the movement. For example, the value is -5 m/s. The speed is 5 m/s, but the velocity is 5 m/s moving downwards because the negative sign denotes downward movement or movement to the left.

A student states that the graduated cylinder contains 150 mL of water his statement is
Gre4nikov [31]

The correct answer is B. An observation

Explanation:

An observation is defined as a statement or conclusion you made after observing or measuring a phenomenon, this includes statements based on precise instruments. For example, if you conclude a plant grows 2 inches every month by measuring the plant during this time, this is classified as an observation. The conclusion of the student is also an observation because he concludes this after analyzing the volume of the water in the cylinder through the lines in the graduated cylinder, considering the water is just in the middle of 100 mL and 200 mL which indicates there are 150 mL of water.

How would you describe the solid-state in terms of motion (ability to move in the space and speed) and distance between molecule
horrorfan [7]

In the gaseous state, the molecules are completely free because there is no intermolecular interaction between the molecules hence they translate at incredibly high velocity.

According to the kinetic theory of matter, the molecules that compose matter are in constant random motion. The nature of this motion varies in the three states of matter which are;

  • Solid
  • Liquid and
  • Gas

In the solid state, the molecules do not translate, they only vibrate and rotate about their mean positions. In the liquids state, the molecules translate but they still have restricted degrees of freedom due to intermolecular interactions. In the gaseous state, the molecules are completely free because there is no intermolecular interaction between the molecules hence they translate at incredibly high velocity.

H₂ (2)<br> → H.<br> H₂(8)<br> +<br> 2(g)<br> wer
Gre4nikov [31]

The given question is incomplete. The complete question is:

In the chemical reaction: , with 8 grams of and 16 grams of and the reaction goes to completion, what is the excess reactant and how much of that would remain?

A) 6 grams of

B) 7 grams of

C) 8 grams of

D) 12 grams of

E) 14 grams of

Answer: A) 6 grams of H_2

Explanation:

To calculate the moles :

\text{Moles of solute}=\frac{\text{given mass}}{\text{Molar Mass}}

\text{Moles of} H_2=\frac{8g}{2g/mol}=4moles

\text{Moles of} O_2=\frac{16g}{32g/mol}=0.5moles

2H_2(g)+O_2(g)\rightarrow 2H_2O(g)

According to stoichiometry :

1 moles of O_2 require 2 moles of H_2

Thus 0.5 moles of O_2 will require=\frac{2}{1}\times 0.5=1.0moles  of H_2

Thus O_2 is the limiting reagent as it limits the formation of product and H_2 is the excess reagent.

(4.0-1.0) = 3.0 moles of  are left unreacted

Mass of remained=

Thus 6.0 g of H_2 will remain.

this is an inert reaction.

The products would contain the same molecules as the reactant side due to the fact that both reactants contain Chloride.
