Which of the following correctly describes the relationship between speed and velocity?

Chemistry

Speed and velocity is a scalar and vector quantity of a similar parameter, respectively. They both refer to how fast an object moves. However, the speed only has to do with the magnitude. The velocity takes into account the sign which indicates the direction of the movement. For example, the value is -5 m/s. The speed is 5 m/s, but the velocity is 5 m/s moving downwards because the negative sign denotes downward movement or movement to the left.

How does the concept of polarity relate to bond formation and molecular shape?
Ket [755]

Answer: heyyyooo

The bond polarity for each bond in a BH3 molecule is polar, due to the difference in electronegativities of the B and H atom. The molecular shape is trigonal planar, and the molecule is non-polar - because due to the symmetry of the molecule, the polarities cancel out.

2. Why are there so many volcanoes in California? <br>
Kruka [31]

Answer:

Most higher risk volcanoes are far from California’s largest cities and several produce heat that’s used to generate electricity in what are the world’s most productive geothermal power plants, such as the Salton Buttes, 160 miles southeast of Los Angeles, and the Clear Lake Volcanic Field 85 miles north of San Francisco that powers the Geysers steam field.

Fantom [35]

<u>Answer:</u> The \Delta H^o_{rxn} for the reaction is -521.6 kJ.

<u>Explanation:</u>

Hess’s law of constant heat summation states that the amount of heat absorbed or evolved in a given chemical equation remains the same whether the process occurs in one step or several steps.

According to this law, the chemical equation is treated as ordinary algebraic expressions and can be added or subtracted to yield the required equation. This means that the enthalpy change of the overall reaction is equal to the sum of the enthalpy changes of the intermediate reactions.

The chemical equation for the reaction of fluorine and water follows:

2F_2(g)+2H_2O(l)\rightarrow 4HF(g)+O_2(g)   \Delta H^o_{rxn}=?

The intermediate balanced chemical reaction are:

(1) H_2(g)+F_2(g)\rightarrow 2HF(g)    \Delta H_1=-546.6kJ    ( × 2)

(2) H_2(g)+O_2(g)\rightarrow 2H_2O(g)    \Delta H_2=-571.6kJ

The expression for enthalpy of reaction follows:

\Delta H^o_{rxn}=[2\times \Delta H_1]+[1\times (-\Delta H_2)]

Putting values in above equation, we get:

\Delta H^o_{rxn}=[(2\times (-546.6))+(1\times (571.6))]=-521.6kJ

Hence, the \Delta H^o_{rxn} for the reaction is -521.6 kJ.
