Atoms consist of protons, neutrons and electrons

Explanation:

There are three particles in an atom:

  • Proton: it is located in the nucleus. Its mass is m_p = 1.6726\cdot 10^{-27}kg, and it is positively charged (its electric charge is +1.6\cdot 10^{-19}C, also  called fundamental charge)
  • Neutron: it is also located in the nucleus. Its mass is slightly larger than the proton (m_n = 1.6749\cdot 10^{-27}kg), and it has no electric charge. Protons and neutrons are held together inside the nucleus by the strong nuclear interaction
  • Electron: it is located outside the nucleus, in a region called "electron cloud". According to quantum mechanics, its exact position cannot be determined, but it can only be described by a "wave function" which gives the probability of finding the electron at a certain position. Its mass is much smaller than the proton (m_e = 9.11\cdot 10^{-31} kg) and it is negatively charged (its charge is the opposite of that of the proton: -1.6\cdot 10^{-19}C).

An electron that has a velocity with x component 2.6 × 106 m/s and y component 2.4 × 106 m/s moves through a uniform magnetic fi
Scrat [10]

Answer with Explanation:

We are given that

v_x=2.6\times 10^6 m/s

v_y=2.4\times 10^6 m/s

B_x=0.029 T

B_y=-0.14 T

a.We have to find the magnitude of the magnetic force on the electron.

v\times B=\begin{vmatrix}i&j&k\\2.6\times 10^6&2.4\times 10^6&0\\0.029&-0.14&0\end{vmatrix}

v\times B=(-0.364-0.0696)\times 10^6 k=-0.4336\times 10^6 k

Charge on an electron,q=-1.6\times 10^{-19} C

F=q(v\times B)=\mid -1.6\times 10^{-19}(-0.4336)\times 10^6\mid =6.9\times 10^{-14} N

Force act along positive z- direction.

b.Charge on proton=q=1.6\times 10^{-19} C

F=\mid 1.6\times 10^{-19}(-0.4336)\times 10^6\mid =6.9\times 10^{-14} N

A solid spherical ball and a hollow spherical ball made out of the same material are released from rest at the top of a ramp. Th
agasfer [191]

Answer:

The moment of inertia

Explanation:

Simply put, the moment of inertia refers to a measure of how an object spreads out its mass.

If two spherical balls have the same mass but different diameters, the one with a bigger diameter will have a bigger moment of inertia, because its mass will spread out more than the other.

Similarly, if two balls have the same mass and diameter, but one is hollow (so all its mass is concentrated around the outer edge) and the other is spherical , the hollow one will have a bigger moment of inertia.

If the two balls are rolled down a ramp, the solid spherical ball reaches the bottom of the ramp before the hollow ball.

Siobhan wants to measure the mass of a bag of flour. What should she use?
ddd [48]

This depends on how big the bag is. Most commonly, the bag weighs 2 kg to 10 kg or more. With this range of weight, Siobhan should use a balance to measure the mass of the flour and record the mass in kilograms. Thus, the answer is the first choice
