In a student experiment, a constant-volume gas thermometer is calibrated in liquid nitrogen (−196°c ) and in boiling ethyl alcoh

ol (77°c). the separate pressures are 0.349 atm and 1.634 atm. hint: use the linear relationship p = a + bt, where a and b are constants. (a) what value of absolute zero does the calibration yield?

The given linear equation is:

P=a+bt

Determine the value of a and b (constants) by plug in the values of pressure and temperature.

P_{1} (Pressure of liquid nitrogen) =0.349 atm

T_{1} (Temperature of liquid nitrogen) =-196^{0}C

P_{2} (Pressure of ethyl alcohol) =1.634 atm

T_{2} (Temperature of ethyl alcohol) =77^{0}C

Put above values in given equation:

P_{1}=a+bT_{1}

0.349 atm=a+b(-196^{0}C)                 (1)

P_{2}=a+bT_{2}

1.634 atm=a+b(77^{0}C)              (2)

Subtract equation (1) from equation (2), we get the value of b

1.285 atm = b(273^{0}C)

b = 4.7\times 10^{-3} atm/^{0}C

Now, put the value of b in equation (1)

0.349 atm=a+(4.7\times 10^{-3}atm/^{0}C)(-196^{0}C)

a = (0.349) + (4.7\times 10^{-3}atm/^{0}C)(196^{0}C)

a =921.549\times 10^{-3} atm

Now, at absolute zero, Pressure is equal to zero.

Absolute temperature = T_{o} =-\frac{a}{b}

T_{o} =  -\frac{921.549\times 10^{-3} atm}{4.7\times 10^{-3} atm/^{0}C}

= -196.074 ^{0}C

Thus, absolute zero = -196.074 ^{0}C

Which isotope has the greatest number of protons?
tino4ka555 [31]

Answer:

The isotope with the greatest number of protons is:

  • <u>option D:  Pu-239, with 94 protons</u>

Explanation:

The number of <em>protons</em> is the atomic number and is a unique number for each type of element.

You can tell the number of protons searching the element in a periodic table and reading its atomic number.

Thus, this is how you tell the number of protons or each isotope

Sample       Chemical symbol  Element       atomic number   # of protons

A Pa-238       Pa                         protactinium         91                        91

B U-240         U                          uranium                 92                       92

C Np-238       Np                        neptunium            93                       93

D Pu-239        Pu                        plutonium              94                       94

Which is the Lewis structure for H3PO4?
meriva

Answer:

C. H:C:H:H

Explanation:

Follow these simple steps to correctly draw a Lewis dot structure: Add up the total number of valence electrons found in the entire compound. Draw the simple structure (skeleton structure) of the compound by connecting everything with single bonds only. Add electrons to all the noncentral atoms. Put any unused electrons on the central atom.

How many milliliters of a stock solution of 2.00M KNO3 would you need to prepare 150mL of a 0.3M solution?
ser-zykov [4K]

Answer:

The answer is "22.5"

Explanation:

Concentration:

M_1= 0.3 \ m \ of\ KNO_3\\\\M_2=2.00\ M\\\\

Volume:

V_1=150 \ ml \ of\  KNO_3 \\\\V_2=?

Using formula:

M_1V_2=M_2V_2\\\\V_2=\frac{M_1V_1}{M_2}\\\\

    =\frac{0.3 \times 150}{2}\\\\=\frac{45}{2}\\\\=22.5
