I can't explain the like dissolves like part but the water and oil I can

when oil is poured into water the oil will stay at the top of the water meaning that water is more dense than oil

Water (H2O) is a polar molecule. Oil is a non-polar molecule which does not dissolve with water. Oil remains separate from water. Water is most attracted to other polar solutes that are capable of being dissolved in it.

What is the pH when the hydrogen ion concentration is 1 x 10-3 M?
Fynjy0 [20]

Answer:

e. 3

Explanation:

In order to solve this problem we need to keep in mind the definition of pH:

  • pH = -log[H⁺]

As stated by the problem, the hydrogen ion concentration, [H⁺], is 1x10⁻³ M.

As all required information is available, we now can <u>calculate the pH</u>:

  • pH = -log(1x10⁻³ M)
  • pH = 3

The correct option is thus e.

What information is needed to determine the energy of an electron in a many-electron atom? a) n. b) l. c) ml. d)ms
mel-nik [20]

Answer:

The correct answer is b.

Explanation:

The quantum number n specifies the energetic level of the orbital, the first level being the one with the least energy. As n increases, the probability of finding the electron near the nucleus decreases and the orbital energy increases.

In the case of atoms with more than one electron, the quantum number l also determines the sublevel of energy in which an orbital is found, within a certain energy level. The value of l is designated by the letters s, p, d, and f.

Write the two balanced equations, one for the incomplete combustion of methane (to form carbon monoxide and water vapor), and an
kompoz [17]

Answer:

2CH_{4(g)} +3O_{2(g)} -->2CO(g)+4H_{2}O_{(g)}\\CH_{4(g)} +2O_{2(g)} -->CO_{2(g)} +2H_{2}O_{(g)} \\

Explanation:

2CH_{4(g)} +3O_{2(g)} -->2CO(g)+4H_{2}O_{(g)}\\CH_{4(g)} +2O_{2(g)} -->CO_{2(g)} +2H_{2}O_{(g)} \\

The incomplete combustion of alkanes, and other fuels actually, happens when there is a limited supply of oxygen. Instead of the fuel burning completely to produce carbon dioxide, it produces carbon monoxide instead.

This gas is harmful to jumans because it combines with haemoglobin in lood and takes up space that belongs to oxygen which can lead to suffocation or even death
