Answer:

5 moles

Explanation:

The equation provided in the question is wrong and this is the complete equation before balancing

SiO2(s) + C(s) → Si(s) + CO (g)

The solid on the product side is silicon (Si) and not silicon carbide (SiC). A balanced equation must have the same number of each atoms on the reactant side been equal to there number on the product side. From the above, we can see that the silicon atom (Si) on the reactant side is equal to the silicon atom on the product side, the oxygen atoms (O) on the reactant side is equal to the oxygen atoms on the product side and the carbon atom (C) on the reactant side is not equal to the carbon atoms on the product side. The balanced equation is below

SiO2(s) + 2C(s) → Si(s) + 2CO (g)

From the above balanced equation, 2 moles of carbon will produces 1 mole of silicon (Si), hence 2.5 moles of Si will be produced by

2 moles of C → 1 mole of Si

X moles of C → 2.5 moles of Si where X is the unknown

X = \frac{2 * 2.5}{1}

X = 5 moles

5 moles of C will produce 2.5 moles of Si

Hello!

Here from the unbalanced reaction we can balance it by comparing the reactants and products(Left hand side versus Right hand side). We can see one carbon and two oxygen on the left hand side, but then we have two carbon and only 1 oxygen on the rhs. This goes against matter or energy can be neither created or destroyed so we have to balance it first to compare mole to mole relationships. So we can simply right in the the missing elements and balance like this:

SiO2(s) + 2C(s) —-> SiC(s) + C02(g)

Now from the balanced reaction we can see it takes 2 moles of Carbon to make only 1 mole of SiC. So if we are given the amount of moles Of SiC produced, then we can see from the 2:1 Ratio of Carbon:SiC that we need double the amount of Carbon to produce 1mole of SiC(s) since the Carbon used is making SiC(s) and CO2(g). Therefore we would need 5moles of Carbon to start with, in order to make 2.5mole of SiC and CO2 from the reaction given above.

Hope this helps. Any questions please feel free to ask. Thank you kindly!

Which statement about atmospheric pressure is false?
Vinil7 [7]

Answer:

D) With an increase in altitude, atmospheric pressure increases as well.

Explanation:

Generally when altitude increases, the value of pressure decreases. This shows that pressure is inversely proportional to altitude. For example, the higher the altitude, the lower the pressure and vice versa. At very high altitude, the number of molecules of air are smaller than the number of moles of air at very low altitude. Thus, the higher the altitude, the lower the atmospheric pressure and the lower the altitude, the higher the atmospheric pressure. Therefore, option (D) is false.

1. write the complete chemical symbol for the ion with 14 protons 15 neutrons and 18 electrons
motikmotik

Answer:

1.   Si^{-4}

2.  Co^{+2}

Explanation:

An ion is formed when an atom that is said to be neutral gains or losses electrons.

It is thought that a negative ion (anion) is produced as it gains electrons and a positive ion (cation) is formed when it loses an electron.

Atomic number is the total number of protons and electrons in a neutral atom.

From the information

Protons = 14

electron = 18

Net Charge = no of proton - no of electron

= 14 - 18 = -4

Mass number = 14 + 15 = 29

Thus, the chemical symbol = Si^{-4}

For ion with 27 proton, 32 neutrons and 25 electrons

Net charge = 27 - 25 = +2

Mass number = 27 + 32 = 59

Thus, the chemical symbol = Co^{+2}

Which statements about the operation of an automated micropipettor are true? The volume dial has already been set, do not alter
yanalaym [24]

Answer:

The correct statement is that the point of initial resistance is the level of depression that will fill the pipette with the desired volume of solution.

Explanation:

The pipette can be otherwise stored vertically or horizontally, this has nothing to do with the operation, and before the operation, the dial needs to be set. Also, the plastic pipette tip should not be ejected at all, thus, no new disposable plastic tip is required for each sample.

The correct statement is that the point of initial resistance is the level of depression that will fill the pipette with the desired volume of solution.
