Shelby and calvin are doing a chemistry experiment. they need 5 ounces of a solution that is 65% acid and 35% distilled water. t

here is no pure acid in the lab, but they have two flasks of other dilute acid mixtures. flask a contains 70% acid and 30% distilled water. flask b contains 20% acid and 80% distilled water. how many ounces do they need from each flask to make their mixture

Let A denote the ounces of solution cast-off from Flask A whereas B is the amount of ounces of solution used from flask B Then 0.7 * A is the number of ounces of acid in solution from Flask A 0.2 * B is the number of ounces of acid in solution from Flask B 0.65(5) is the total number of ounces of acid in the final solution Now write equations for total ounces of solution and total ounces of acid A + B = 5 0.7A + 0.2B = 0.65 * 50.7(4.5) + (0.2)(0.5) = 3.253.15 + .1 = 3.25The answer is A =4.5, b = 0.5

The unknown ionic compound gave a red flame test, NR with ammonium carbonate, and a red/orange halide test. What is the unknown
harkovskaia [24]

Answer:

This question is incomplete, however, the unknown compound can be inferred to be "Lithium Bromide"

Explanation:

The unknown compound firstly is said to be an ionic compound. An ionic/electrovalent compound is a compound in which it's constituent ions transfer/receive electron(s). They are mostly made of group 1 and group 7 elements. Examples include NaCl, NaF, LiF and KCl.

Also, the ion (metallic ion) that produces a red flame test colour in a flame test is the Lithium ion (Li⁺). Also, when dissolved in water or hexane, the only halogen that produces a red/orange colour is bromine. Hence, the unknown ionic compound can be inferred to be Lithium Bromide.

Calculate the pH of the solutions: [H^+]= 1.6 x 10^-3 M
Yuliya22 [10]

Answer:

A) pH = 2.8

B) pH = 5.5

C) pH = 8.9

D) pH = 13.72

Explanation:

a) [H⁺]  = 1.6 × 10⁻³ M

pH = -log [H⁺]

pH = -log [1.6 × 10⁻³ ]

pH = 2.8

b) [H⁺]  = 3 × 10⁻⁶

pH = -log [H⁺]

pH = -log [3 × 10⁻⁶ ]

pH = 5.5

c) [OH⁻] = 8.2 × 10⁻⁶

pOH = -log[OH]

pOH = -log[8.2 × 10⁻⁶]

pOH = 5.1

pH + pOH = 14

pH = 14 - pOH

pH = 14 - 5.1

pH = 8.9

d) [OH⁻] = 0.53 M

pOH = -log[OH]

pOH = -log[0.53]

pOH = 0.28

pH + pOH = 14

pH = 14 - pOH

pH = 14 - 0.28

pH = 13.72
