When metal atoms combine chemically with atoms of other elements, what do they usually do?

Chemistry

Answer:

Maybe I know too much chemistry but how the metals (and the non-metals) react depends on where they are in the Periodic Table. The metals in groups I and II over on the far left side are explosively reactive and loose electrons and form ionic bonds. Examples: Na+1 has lost 1 electron and Li+2 has lost 2 electrons. The metals in the higher groups are more confusing but most of them share outer shell electrons and form covalent bonds. Examples: Fe2O3 (rust) where Iron shares 2X3 electrons with Oxygen which shares 3X2 electrons. Confused enough? :-)

The answer you'll be expected to give depends on the subject of the chapter you're studying. If you're studying covalent bonds, then the answer will probably be "form covalent bonds". If you're studying ionic bonds, then the answer will be "lose electrons".

The percent yield of the calcium hydroxide is 84.5%.

What is stoichiometry?

Stoichiometry enables us to obtain the mass of a substance form the equation of the reaction.

The equation of the reaction is;

CaCO3 + 2HCl -----> CaCl2 + CO2 + H2O

Number of moles of X = 40.0 grams/100 g/mol = 0.4 moles

Number of moles of HCl = 850/1000 * 1 M = 0.85 moles

If 1 mole of CaCO3 reacts with 2 moles of HCl

0.4 moles of CaCO3 reacts with 0.4 moles * 2 moles/1 mole

= 0.8 moles of HCl

Hence X is the limiting reactant.

The reaction is 1:1 then the amount of CO2 produced is 0.4 moles

Mass of CO2 = 0.4 CO2 * 44 g/mol = 17.6 g

2) The reaction equation is; 2NaOH + CaCO3 ---> Ca(OH)2 + Na2CO3

Number of moles of X = 25.0 grams/100 g/mol = 0.25 moles

Number of moles of NaOH= 40/1000 L * 2 M = 0.08 moles

If 1 mole of X reacts with 2 moles of NaOH

0.25 moles reacts with 0.25 moles * 2 moles /1 mole

= 0.5 moles

NaOH is the limiting reactant

2 moles of NaOH produces 1 mole of CO2

0.08 moles of NaOH produces 0.08 moles * 1 mole/2 moles

= 0.04 moles of CO2

Theoretical yield of CO2 = 0.04 moles of CO2 * 74 g/mol = 2.96 g

Percent yield = 2.5 g/ 2.96 g * 100

= 84.5%

A solution contains 0.115 mol h2o and an unknown number of moles of nacl. the vapor pressure of the solution at 30°c is 25.7 tor
Valentin [98]
According to Raoult's low:
We will use this formula: Vp(Solution) = mole fraction of solvent * Vp(solvent)
∴ mole fraction of solvent = Vp(Solu) / Vp (Solv)
when we have Vp(solu) = 25.7 torr & Vp(solv) = 31.8 torr
So by substitution:
∴ mole fraction of solvent = 25.7 / 31.8 =0.808
when we assume the moles of solute NaCl = X
and according to the mole fraction of solvent formula:
mole fraction of solvent = moles of solvent / (moles of solvent + moles of solute)
by substitute:
∴ 0.808 = 0.115 / (0.115 + X)
So X (the no.of moles of NaCl) = 0.027 m

A runner travels at a constant speed of 4 m/s. What happens to the velocity of the runner when the runner changes direction?
ANTONII [103]

Answer:

4m/s in the direction of the turn

Explanation:

The velocity of an object is the rate of change of its position with respect to a frame of reference.

Assuming the runner stays the same speed as he turns, his velocity will be 4m/s in the speed he turns.
