Butane, ch3-ch2-ch2-ch3, is a hydrocarbon fuel used in lighters. how many moles of molecules are there in a 350. gram sample of
Galina-37 [17]
6.03 moles.

1 molecule of butane contains 4 carbon atoms and ten hydrogen atoms.

The molar mass is 4 times the atomic mass of carbon, 12 g/mol, plus 10 times the atomic weight of hydrogen, 1 g/mol.

Molar mass = 4 * 12 g/mol + 10 * 1 g/mol = 58 g/mol.

This means that 1 mole of butane has a mass of 58 g.

To figure out how many moles are in a sample of butane, divide the mass of sample in grams by 58 grams

Number of moles in sample = 350 g / 58 g/mol = 6.03 moles.

How does a greenhouse keep radiant energy from escaping?
Rina8888 [55]
Greenhouse effect is the process of trapping sun radiation in the earth surface, so as to make the planet warm. It is a natural phenomenon in which sun rays that enters the earth surface are re-radiated into the earth surface causing the heat trap in the earth.
In similar manner, green house also trap radiation inside the glass house. The sun rays once reach inside the glass house, strike on plants and objects and reflected back. For entire radiation to escape from the green house, the heat flow between the two points must be proportional to the temperature difference and thermal conductivity. The glass of which the green house are made up, have low thermal conductivity. So, temperature must rise inside glass house so to maintain the heat flow rate of incoming and outgoing radiation.
The green house glass are insulated and they trap the infrared emitted by the objects inside the green house from escaping outside. Since the infrared have longer wave lengths, it is released slowly.

Also, the thermal energy inside the glass house are transferred by convection process. But the glass walls and roof act as insulator, keeping the radiant energy from escaping outside the green house.

If a compound contains a poly atomic ion then what type of compound is it A. Convalent Compound B. Ionic Compound
den301095 [7]

Answer:

B. Ionic Compound

Explanation:

An ionic compound is that compound which contains a positively charged ion called CATION and a negatively charged ion called ANION. The cation loses or transfers electrons to the anion, hence, making the former (cation) positive and the latter (anion) negative.

A polyatomic ion is an ion that contains more than one type of atom e.g OH-, NO3²-, CO3²- etc. A polyatomic ion usually has an overall charge formed from the charges of the individual atoms that makes it up. For example, in OH-, the overall charge is -1.

Since a polyatomic ion can have an overall positive or negative charge, it must enter a reaction with another ion that complements it i.e. a negative polyatomic ion will react with a positive ion to neutralize its charge. Hence, this forms an IONIC COMPOUND. This is why most compounds with polyatomic ions are IONIC COMPOUNDS.

For example, CaCO3 is an ionic compound formed when Ca²+ (cation) reacts with the polyatomic anion: CO3²-
