A gas is confined in a cylinder with a piston. What happens when work is done on the gas?

Physics

The correct answer is:

The volume of the gas decreases

Explanation:

As the piston is forced down work is done on the gas. The force exercised by the gas pressure on the piston is in the adverse direction of the motion of the piston. The volume of the space the gas absorbs decreases. When we let go of the piston the gas extends. The force exercised by the gas is in the similar direction as the motion of the piston and work is done by the system.

13. Which best summarizes the change in number and size of microcontinents during the Proterozoic?
Nutka1998 [239]

Answer:

Option C

The number of microcontinents decreased and the size increased

Explanation:

During the Proterozoic stage, it's expected that while the size of microcontinents increased, the reverse happens on the number to imply the number decreased. Therefore, option C is correct, the number of microcontinents decreased and the size increased

Which type of electromagnetic radiation has the highest frequency?
Likurg_2 [28]

Explanation:

As we know that relation between energy and wavelength is as follows.

                  E = \frac{hc}{\lambda}

This means that energy is inversely proportional to wavelength. So, more is the energy of an electromagnetic radiation less will be its wavelength.

Also,          f = \frac{c}{\lambda}

Hence, less will be the wavelength more will frequency of a radiation.

Gamma rays are the rays that have highest energy, small wavelength and highest frequency.

Thus, we can conclude that gamma rays are the electromagnetic radiation which has the highest frequency.

The acceleration of a car is 0.33 m/s squared. if the applied force were cut in half, what would you predict the acceleration wo
NNADVOKAT [17]

0.17m/s²

Explanation:

According to newtons second law "the force on a body is depends on its mass and acceleration"

    Force = mass x acceleration.

The more the mass and acceleration, the more the force a body possess.

  Given that the acceleration of the body is 0.33m/s²

   Force = 0.33 x mass

If the force on the body is halved, the acceleration will also be halved;

   i.e:

        Force = F

     \frac{F}{2} = 0.33 x mass

                 F = \frac{1}{2} x 0.33 x mass

                  F =           0.17      x  mass

            Force = acceleration x  mass

 Acceleration is 0.17m/s²
