Answer :

The parent and daughter concentrations (in percentages) is, 60 % and 40 % respectively.

The age of rock is 3.32\times 10^9\text{ years}

Explanation :

First we have to calculate the parent and daughter concentrations (in percentages).

\text{Parent concentrations}=\frac{1.8g}{3g}\times 100=60\%

and,

\text{Daughter concentrations}=\frac{(3-1.8)g}{3g}\times 100=40\%

As we know that, the half-life of uranium-238 = 4.5\times 10^9 years

Now we have to calculate the rate constant, we use the formula :

k=\frac{0.693}{t_{1/2}}

k=\frac{0.693}{4.5\times 10^9\text{ years}}

k=1.54\times 10^{-10}\text{ years}^{-1}

Now we have to calculate the time passed.

Expression for rate law for first order kinetics is given by:

t=\frac{2.303}{k}\log\frac{a}{a-x}

where,

k = rate constant  = 1.54\times 10^{-10}\text{ years}^{-1}

t = time passed by the sample  = ?

a = initial amount of the reactant  = 3 g

a - x = amount left after decay process = 1.8 g

Now put all the given values in above equation, we get

t=\frac{2.303}{1.54\times 10^{-10}}\log\frac{3}{1.8}

t=3.32\times 10^9\text{ years}

Therefore, the age of rock is 3.32\times 10^9\text{ years}

6. Identify the number of neutrons in one atom of silicon with an isotopic mass number of 28 amu.
Sholpan [36]

14

Explanation:

The number of neutrons in one atom of silicon with an isotopic mass number of 28amu is 14.

An atom is made up three fundamental sub-atomic particles which are:

  Protons, neutron and electrons

Protons are the positively charged particles in an atom

Neutrons do not carry any charges

Electrons are the negatively charged particles.

In the nucleus of an atom, both protons and neutrons can be found. They are the massive particle in an atom.

  The mass number of an atom = number of protons + number of neutrons

Number of neutrons = mass number - number of protons.

From the periodic table, we know that silicon has an atomic number of 14.

The atomic number is the number of protons in an atom:

         Number of neutrons = 28 - 14 = 14amu

In the atom, we will have 14amu of neutrons in a silicon atom.

Does sodium have a positive or negative charge after ionization?
melomori [17]
After ionization, sodium gains a net positive charge cuz sodium loses its 1 valence electron to gain the nearest stable octet which is neon{Ne}. Hope it helps

Compounds X and Y are both C6H13Cl compounds formed in the radical chlorination of 3-methylpentane. Both X and Y undergo base-pr
zubka84 [21]

Answer:

Y is a 3-chloro-3-methylpentane.

The structure is shown in the figure attached.

Explanation:

The radical chlorination of 3-methylpentane can lead to a tertiary substituted carbon (Y) and to a secondary one (X).

The E2 elimination mechanism, as shown in the figure, will happen with a simulyaneous attack from the base and elimination of the chlorine. This means that primary and secondary substracts undergo the E2 mechanism faster than tertiary substracts.
