Answer:

Explanation:

Law of conservation of momentum : States that if two bodies collide in a closed system, the total momentum before collision is equal to the total momentum after collision

Total momentum before collision = Total momentum after collision

m₁u₁ + m₂u₂ = V(m₁+m₂).............. Equation 1

Where m₁ = mass of the first person, m₂ = mass of the second person, u₁ = initial velocity of the first person, u₂ = initial velocity of the second person, V = common velocity.

Making m₂ the subject of the equation above

m₂ = (m₁u₁ - m₁V)/(V-u₂).............. Equation 2

<em>Given: m₁ = 60 kg, u₁ = 3.0 m/s, u₂ = 0 m/s (at rest). V = 2.0 m/s</em>

Substituting these values into equation 2

m₂ = (60×3 - 60×2)/(2-0)

m₂ = (180 - 120)/2

m₂ = 60/2

m₂ = 30 kg

The mass of the second person = 30 kg

What is the force on a box that is being pushed to the right with 50n of force while, at the same time, being pushed to the left
elena-s [515]
I think the question meant to say net force on the box. Since force is a vector, the direction matters. 20N left is negated completely by the 50N right, which means the net force is 50N-20N to the right, 30N.

19. After a snowstorm, you put on your frictionless skis and tie a rope to the back of your friend’s truck. Your total mass is 7
Kisachek [45]

Explanation:

It is given that,

Total mass is 70 kg

The truck exerts a constant force of 20 N.

Then the net force is given by :

F = ma

a is acceleration of rider

a=\dfrac{F}{m}\\\\a=\dfrac{20}{70}\\\\a=\dfrac{2}{7}\ m/s^2

Initial velocity of rider is 0. So, using equation of kinematics to find the final velocity as :

v=u+at\\\\v=at\\\\v=\dfrac{2}{7}\times 15\\\\v=4.28\ m/s

Since, 1 m/s = 2.23 mph

4.28 m/s = 9.57 mph

So, the speed of the rider is 4.28 m/s or 9.57 mph.
