A student balances the following redox reaction using half-reactions.
ICE Princess25 [194]
Answer: 6.

Explanation:

1) Aluminum

Al^0-3e^----\ \textgreater \ Al^{3+}

So each atom of aluminum lost 3 electrons to pass from 0 oxidation state to 3+ oxidation state.

2) Manganesium

Mn^{2+}+2e^{-}---\ \textgreater \ Mn

So, each ion of Mn(2+) gained 2 electrons pass from 2+ oxidation state to 0.

3) Balance

Multiply aluminum half-reaction (oxidation) by 2 and multiply manganesium half-raction (reduction) by 3:

2Al^{0}-6e^{-}---\ \textgreater \ 2Al^{3+}

3Mn^{2+}+6e^{-}---\ \textgreater \ 3Mn^{0}

4) Net equation

Add the two half-equations:

2Al^{0}+3Mn^{2+}----\ \textgreater \ 2Al^{3+}+3Mn^{0}

As you see the left side has 2 Al, 3Mn, and 3*2 positive charges.

The right side has 2 Al, 3 Mn, and 2*3 positive charges.

So, the equation is balanced.

5) Count the number of electrons involved.

As you see 2 atoms of aluminum lost 6 electrons (3 each).

That is the answer to the question. 6 electrons will be lost.

What are some<br> double replacement reactions you see every day
Cerrena [4.2K]

Answer:

  • Sodium Bicarbonate (β-3) + Vinegar
  • Lead Nitrate + Potassium iodide

Explanation:

Baking Soda and vinegar cause an explosion, in which the bicarbonate and vinegar are replaced by nitrate (∨) and oxide (Ф.) When you combine lead nitrate (Δω) with potassium iron, you also see the ingredients you combined disappear, which shall cause a replace reaction

Both kepler's laws and newton's laws tell us something about the motion of the planets, but there are fundamental differences be
I am Lyosha [343]

Answer: See description

Explanation:

Kepler's laws have three principal points:

1. planets orbit the sun in elliptical paths

2. the orbial period is related to the orbital distance by T^{2} = d^3

where T is the orbital period and d is the orbital distance, T is in years and d is measured in units of the earth sun distance.

3. planets closer to the sun move faster than planets far away from it.

Newton:

Newton discovered that there is a consequence to the gravity exerted by objects: mass, the heavier the planet, the more gravitational force it posseses ( thats why we orbit the sun)

with the gravitational force F_{gravitational} =G \frac{Mm}{r^2} newton discovered the inverse-quadratic relationship between the distance of the planets and the acceleration exerted by the force one could exert on another.

Kepler's laws were mostly based on observed evidence with quantitative relationships between the mentioned variables. Newton's laws are based on calculus and symbolic equations. While Kepler's mode is basic, Newton took another step in and build a more general model for gravity (which was improved by general relativity later). In a nutshell Newton proved the scientific causes for Kepler's laws...
