Answer:  the average vertical component of velocity between the object's release and its striking the ground is 49.5 m/s or 178 km/h

Explanation:

1) The motion of an object under the action of gravity, when air resistance is neglected is called projectile motion. The path is a curve with the form of  a parabola.

2) The equations that rule that motion are:

  • Horizontal speed:
  • Vx = Vox = constant.
  • In this case it is the same horizontal speed of the plane at the moment when the object was proyected. Vx = 429 km/h.
  • Vertical speed:

         Vy = Voy + gt

         d = yo - Voy×t - gt² / 2

         Vy² = Voy² - 2gd

  • Since, you know Voy =0, g = 9.81 m/s², and d = 500m, you can use the last equation, leading to:

        Vy² = 2(9.81m/s²)(500m) = 9,810 m²/s² ⇒ Vy = √(9,810 m²/s²) = 99 m/s

3) As per definition the average velocity is displacement / time, so you need to find the time to reach the ground.

  • You can use the formula  Vy = Voy + gt
  • Clear t: t = (Vy - Voy) / g = (99 m/s - 0) / 9.81 m/s = 10.1s

  • Average vertical velocity = 500 m / 10.1s = 49.5 m/s.
  • You can convert to km/h: 49.5 m/s × 1km/1,000m × 3600s/h = 178 km/h

4) Conclusion: the average vertical component of velocity between the object's release and its striking the ground is 49.5 m/s or 178 km/h

When attempting to determine the coefficient of kinetic friction, why is it necessary to move the block with constant velocity
Readme [11.4K]

Answer:

Explanation:

In order to measure the coefficient of friction , we apply external force to move the body . When external force comes in motion , we adjust the external force so that it moves with zero acceleration or uniform velocity . In this case external force becomes equal to kinetic frictional force and then net force becomes zero because

net force = mass x acceleration = m x 0 = 0

Now frictional force = μ mg where μ is coefficient of kinetic friction

so F = μ mg where F is external force applied

μ = F / mg

Hence , to make external force equal to frictional force , it is necessary to make acceleration of body zero .

The potential energy of a particle as a function of position will be given as U(x) = A x2 + B x + C, where U will be in joules w
satela [25.4K]

Answer:

F = - 2 A x - B

Explanation:

The force and potential energy are related by the expression

      F = - dU / dx i ^ -dU / dy j ^ - dU / dz k ^

Where i ^, j ^, k ^ are the unit vectors on the x and z axis

The potential they give us is

     U (x) = A x² + B x + C

Let's calculate the derivatives

    dU / dx = A 2x + B + 0

The other derivatives are zero because the potential does not depend on these variables.

Let's calculate the strength

      F = - 2 A x - B

An old light bulb draws only 54.3 W, rather than its original 60.0 W, due to evaporative thinning of its filament. By what facto
Lemur [1.5K]

Answer:

The factor of the diameter is 0.95.

Explanation:

Given that,

Power of old light bulb = 54.3 W

Power = 60 W

We know that,

The resistance is inversely proportional to the diameter.

R\propto\dfrac{1}{D}

The power is inversely proportional to the resistance.

P\propto\dfrac{1}{R}

P\propto D^2

We need to calculate the factor of the diameter of the filament reduced

Using relation of power and diameter

\dfrac{P_{i}}{P_{f}}=\dfrac{D_{i}^2}{D_{f}^2}

Put the value into the formula

\dfrac{D_{i}^2}{D_{f}^2}=\dfrac{54.3}{60}

\dfrac{D_{i}}{D_{f}}=0.95

D_{i}=0.95 D_{f}

Hence, The factor of the diameter is 0.95.
