According to Newton’s second law of motion, when an object is acted on by an unbalanced force, how will that object respond? It
otez555 [7]

Answer:

C) It will accelerate.

Explanation:

According to Newton’s second law of motion, when an object is acted on by an unbalanced force, it will accelerate.

An unbalanced force will change the speed or direction (or both) of an object. A change in speed and/or direction is acceleration.

A) is wrong. The object will stop moving only if there is a balanced force in the opposite direction.

B) is wrong. The object will decrease speed only if the unbalanced force has a component opposite to the direction of motion.

d) is wrong. The object will increase speed only if the unbalanced force has a component in the direction of motion.

At a given temperature, 2.6 atm of h2 and 3.14 atm of cl2 are mixed and allowed to come to equilibrium. the equilibrium pressure
Keith_Richards [23]

The solution would be like this for this specific problem:

<span>Given:

H2 = </span><span>2.6 atm
CL2 = 3.14 atm</span>

<span>
pressure H2 = 2.6 - x
pressure Cl2 = 3.14 - x
<span>pressure HBr = 2x = 1.13

x = 1.13 / 2 = 0.565

<span>pressure H2 = 2.6 - 0.565 = 2.035
pressure Br2 = 3.14 - 0.565 = 2.575

Kp = (1.13)^2 / 2.035 x 2.575</span></span></span>

= 1.2769 / (5.240125)

= 0.24367739319195629875241525726963

= 0.244

<span>Therefore, the Kp for the reaction at the given temperature is 0.244.

To add, </span>the hypothetical pressure of a gas if it alone occupied the whole volume of the original mixture at the same temperature is called the partial pressure or Kp.

For the following reaction, calculate how many moles of NO2 forms when 0.356 moles of the reactant completely reacts.
Nesterboy [21]

Answer:

0.712 mol of NO₂ are formed .

Explanation:

For the reaction , given in the question ,

2 N₂O₅ ( g )  →  4 NO₂ ( g ) + O₂ ( g )

From the above balanced reaction ,

2 mol of N₂O₅  reacts to give 4 mol of NO₂

Applying unitary method ,

1 mol of N₂O₅  reacts to give 4 / 2 mol of NO₂

From the question , 0.356 mol of N₂O₅ are reacted ,

<u>now, using the above equation , to calculate the moles of the NO₂ , as follow -</u>

Since ,

1 mol of N₂O₅  reacts to give 4 / 2 mol of NO₂

0.356 mol of N₂O₅  reacts to give 4 / 2 * 0.356 mol of NO₂

Calculating ,

0.712 mol of NO₂ are formed .

Thorium-234 has a half-life of 24.1 days. How many grams of a 150 g sample would you have after 120.5 days?
chubhunter [2.5K]

Answer:

8.625 grams of a 150 g sample of Thorium-234  would be left after 120.5 days

Explanation:

The nuclear half life represents the time taken for the initial amount of sample  to reduce into half of its mass.

We have given that the half life of thorium-234 is 24.1 days. Then it takes 24.1 days for a Thorium-234 sample to reduced to half of its initial amount.

Initial amount of Thorium-234 available as per the question is 150 grams

So now  we start with 150 grams  of Thorium-234

150 \times \frac{1}{2}=24.1

75 \times \frac{1}{2} =48.2

34.5 \times \frac{1}{2} =72.3

17.25 \times \frac{1}{2} =96.4

8.625\times \frac{1}{2} =120.5

So after 120.5 days the amount of sample that remains is 8.625g

In simpler way , we can use the below formula to find the sample left

A=A_{0} \cdot \frac{1}{2^{n}}

Where

A_0  is the initial sample amount

n = the number of half-lives that pass in a given period of time.
