Turn it into a triangle pretty much. total displacement eastward is 15cm. total displacement northward is 35cm. now use the Pythagorean theorem which will be squareroot of 15squared+35squared. this gives you 38.08cm northeastward.<span />

A 125kg man buy a 6kg watermelon, a 3kg cantaloupe, and 6kgs of potatoes, he walks home with his purchases in a large bag. His w
Stells [14]

Answer:

350N

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Mass of the man = 125kg

Mass of the watermelon = 6kg

Mass of cantaloupe  = 3kg

Mass of potatoes  = 6kg

Acceleration  = 2.5m/s²

Unknown:

Force required to get home  = ?

Solution:

To find this force we use;

    Force  = mass x acceleration

mass  = 125 + 6 + 3 + 6  = 140kg

 So;

      Net force = 140 x 2.5  = 350N

Sarah, who has a mass of 55 kg, is riding in a car at 20 m/s. She sees a cat crossing the street and slams on the brakes! Her se
avanturin [10]

Answer:

-2200 N

Explanation:

The change in momentum of Sarah is equal to the impulse, which is the product between the force exerted by the seatbelt on Sarah and the time during which the force is applied:

\Delta p=I\\m \Delta v = F \Delta t

where

m is the mass

\Delta v is the change in velocity

F is the average force

\Delta t is the duration of the collision

In this problem:, we have:

m = 55 kg is Sarah's mass

\Delta v = 0-20 = -20 m/s  is the change in velocity

\Delta t = 0.5 s  is the duration of the collision

Solving for F, we find the force exerted by the seatbelt on Sarah:

F=\frac{m\Delta v}{\Delta t}=\frac{(55)(-20)}{0.5}=-2200 N

Where the negative sign indicates that the direction of the force is opposite to that of Sarah's initial velocity.

A 90 kg painter is standing on a horizontal wooden scaffolding of length 10 m, which is supported on each end by a rope. The pai
RSB [31]

Explanation:

For equilibrium, \sum M = 0.

So,   8 m \times mg - (10 m) T_{1} = 0

             T_{1} = \frac{8 \times mg}{10}

                        = \frac{8 \times 90 \times 9.8}{10}

                        = 705.6 N

Also, for equilibrium \sum F_{y} = 0

              T_{1} + T_{2} - mg = 0

or,         T_{2} = mg - T_{1}

                        = 90 \times 9.8 - 705.6

                        = 176.4 N

Thus, we can conclude that the tension in the first rope is 176.4 N.
