An increase in temperature generally increases the movement of molecules (hence has an increased kinetic energy) while a decrease in temperature reduces the movement of molecules in a substance (hence has a decreased kinetic energy.

A hot cup of coffee has a high temperature and as such it's molecules move fast hence the molecules of the coffee have a higher kinetic energy compared to a cold Ice cream whose molecules move slowly due to low temperature (hence the kinetic energy is low).
