Answer:

Covalent Bond

Explanation:

Because of the unequal sharing of electrons, a covalent bond exists.

Explanation:

When a bond between two atoms is formed by transfer of electrons then the bond is known as ionic bond. On the other hand, when a bond is formed between two atoms by sharing of electrons then the bond is known as covalent bond.

For example, carbon atom needs 4 more electrons in order to complete its octet. Whereas hydrogen needs one more electron to become stable. Hence, carbon will share its valence electrons with hydrogen atoms and therefore carbon will combine with 4 hydrogen atoms.

         C(s) + 2H_{2}(g) \rightarrow CH_{4}

Thus, we can conclude that two atoms are bonded through the unequal sharing of electrons then covalent bond exists between the atoms.

A student wants to examine a substance by altering the bonds within its molecules. Which of the following properties of the subs
Marrrta [24]

Question is incomplete, the complete question is as follows:

A student wants to examine a substance by altering the bonds within its molecules. Which of the following properties of the substance should the student examine?

A. Toxicity, because it can be observed by altering the state of the substance

B. Boiling point, because it can be observed by altering the state of the substance

C. Toxicity, because it can be observed by replacing the atoms of the substance with new atoms

D. Boiling point, because it can be observed by replacing the atoms of the substance with new atoms

Answer:

B.

Explanation:

A student can examine a substance without altering the bonds within the molecules by examining its boiling point.

The boiling point is the property of a substance, at which the substance changes its state, which is from solid to liquid, liquid to gas and others. So, examining the boiling point will alter the bonds within the molecules as the state of substance will change.

Hence, the correct answer is "B".

How do you balance a chemical equation
Dominik [7]
There should be mass balance and the charge balance between the reactants and the products

Mass balance : total no of individual atoms of each type should be balanced before and after the reaction

Charge balance : Overall charge of the reactants should be balanced with the overall charge of the products

You can balance,

1)by just looking at it

2)by Algebraic method given above or

3)by the redox method

You need to know how to get the oxidation numbers in order to use the oxidation method

What is the empirical formula of a compound that is made of 3.80g of phosphorus and 0.371g of hydrogen?
lys-0071 [83]

You start by diving each quantity given by the atomic wight of each element:

Phosphorus (P)   \frac{3.8}{31} =0.123

Hydrogen (H)   \frac{0.371}{1} =0.371

Then you divide by the lowest number:

\frac{0.123}{0.123} = 1 for phosphorus

\frac{0.371}{0.123} = 3 for hydrogen

So the empirical formula will be:

PH_{3}
