A container has a large cylindrical lower part with a long thin cylindrical neck open at the top. The lower part of the containe

r holds 20.0 m3 of water and the surface area of the bottom of the container is 8.00 m2. The height of the lower part of the container is 2.50 m, and the neck contains a column of water 8.50 m high. The total volume of the column of water in the neck is 0.200 m3. What is the magnitude of the force exerted by the water on the bottom of the container?

Answer:

8.6*10^5N

Explanation:

Pressure of the water = density of water * height of the water * acceleration due to gravity

Pressure of water = 1000*9.81*(2.5 + 8.50)

Pressure of the water = 107910 = 1.08*10^5

And Pressure = force / A

Force = Pressure * A(surface area of the container)

Force = 1.08*10^5 * 8 = 863280 = 8.6*10^5N

An atom that has only one electron in its valence electron shell is ______ chemically reactive?
umka2103 [35]

The valence electrons are the electrons in the outermost electron shell of an atom.

Explanation:

The number of electrons in an atom's outermost valence shell governs its bondingbehaviour.

That is why elements whose atoms have the same number of valence electrons are grouped together in the Periodic Table.

Generally, elements in Groups 1, 2, and 13 to 17 tend to react to form a closed shell, corresponding to the electron configuration s2p6.

This tendency is called the octet rule, because the bonded atoms have eight valence electrons.

Why do soundwaves move faster than the ground than through the air
Sati [7]

Answer:

Particles of matter are packed more tightly in the ground than in the air

Explanation:

the reason is that sound waves are vibrations of the molecules of the medium: therefore, if the particles of the medium are closer together (as in solids), the vibrations can be transmitted faster, and the wave can travel faster
