It can be shown that Fick's law of diffusion can be adapted to find that the time for the first solute molecule to travel a dist

ance List = L2/(2D). Suppose the diffusion constant for molecules of some unpleasant odor in air is 1.8 x 10-5 m2/s. Roughly how far will the odor travel in 60 s?

Answer:

L = 0.0464 m

Explanation:

Given;

The relation between the time 't' and the distance 'L' as:

t=\frac{L^2}{2D}

and,

Diffusion constant, D =  1.8 x 10⁻⁵ m²/s

time, t = 60 s

on substituting the values in the above relation, we get

60=\frac{L^2}{2\times1.8\times10^{-5}}

or

L=\sqrt{2\times1.8\times10^{-5}\times60}

or

L = 0.0464 m

A ball is thrown upward at 25 m/s from the ground. what is the balls velocity after 4 seconds?
mixas84 [53]

Answer:

-14.2m/s

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Initial velocity of the ball  = 25m/s

Time  = 4s

Unknown:

Final velocity of the ball  = ?

Solution:

To solve this problem, we use the expression below;

               v  = u - gt

v is the final velocity

u is the initial velocity

g is the acceleration due to gravity

t is the time

             v = 25  - (9.8 x 4)  = -14.2m/s
