A surveyor measures the distance across a river that flows straight north by the following method. Starting directly across from

a tree on the opposite bank, the surveyor walks distance, D = 130 m along the river to establish a baseline. She then sights across to the tree and reads that the angle from the baseline to the tree is an angle θ = 25°. How wide is the river?

Answer:

The width of the river is  z = 60.62 \ m

Explanation:

From the question we are told that

     The distance of the base line is D = 130 m

       The angle is  \theta =  25^o

A diagram illustration the question is shown on the first uploaded image

    Applying Trigonometric Rules for Right-angled Triangle,

            tan  25 =  \frac{z}{130}

Now making  z the subject

           z = 130 * tan (25)

          z = 60.62 \ m

A light-rail commuter train blows its 200 Hz horn as it approaches a crossing. The speed of sound is 339 m/s. (a) An observer wa
ddd [48]

Answer:

a) 30.82 m/s

b)  183.33 Hz

Explanation:

a)

V = speed of the sound = 339 m/s

v = speed of the train = ?

f' = observed frequency by the observer = 220 Hz

f = actual frequency of the observer = 200 Hz

using the equation

f' = \frac{fV}{V - v}

220 = \frac{(200)(339)}{339 - v}

v =  30.82 m/s

b)

V = speed of the sound = 339 m/s

v = speed of the train = 30.82 m/s

f'' = observed frequency by the observer as train moves away = ?

f = actual frequency of the observer = 200 Hz

using the equation

f'' = \frac{fV}{V + v}

f'' = \frac{(200)(339)}{339 + 30.82}

f'' = 183.33 Hz

A particle on a spring moves in simple harmonic motion along the x axis between turning points at x1 = 95 cm and x2 = 135 cm. (i
uranmaximum [27]

Answer:

(i) x = 115\,cm, (ii) x = 95\,cm, (iii) x = 95\,cm

Explanation:

(i) x_{1} and x_{2} represent the points where particle has a velocity of zero and spring reach maximum deformation, Given the absence of non-conservative force and by the Principle of Energy Conservation, the position where particle is at maximum speed is average of both extreme positions:

x = 115\,cm

(ii) Maximum accelerations is reached at x_{1} and x_{2}.

x = 95\,cm

(iii) Greatest net forces exerted on the particle are reached at  x_{1} and x_{2}.

x = 95\,cm

which of the following astronomers introduced the most widely accepted hypothesis regarding the origin of the solar system?
Oksanka [162]

The astronomers introduced the most widely accepted hypothesis regarding the origin of the solar system is Immanuel Kant in 1755.

Newton's equations of gravity and rotatory motion served as the foundation for most of Kant's theories. He believed that primaeval matter, which he believed to have been generated supernaturally, was dispersed throughout the cosmos. Small, chilly, hard particles made up this substance.

Due to the gravitational pull of one another, these particles were drawn to one another.

In his 1755  "The Universal Natural History and Views of the Heavens," Kant discusses astronomy as well as two significant cosmological theories. The first is his "Nebular Hypothesis" on the formation of stars and planets, in which he proposed that faint, thin clouds of dust and gas far out in space would collapse in on themselves under the influence of gravity, forcing them to spin to form a disc. The development of stars and planets from this rotating disc would account for the rotation of Earth and the other planets.
