Answer:

The average speed is 41.3 mph.

Explanation:

I complete the travel in 4 sections.

In the first section I travelled: 20 m/h . 0.5 h = 10 m

In the second section I travelled: 40 m/h . 1 h = 40 m

In the third section I travelled: 30 m/h . 0.5 h = 15 m

In the fourth section I travelled: 50 m/h . 0.5 h = 100 m

In total I travelled 165 meters.

          d = 10 m + 40 m + 15 m + 100 m = 165 m

The time used to do this travel was 4 hours.

             t = 0.5 h + 1 h +0.5 h + 2 h = 4 h

The average speed is s = d / t = 165 m / 4 h = 41.25 m/ h ≅ 41.3 mph

Why would Sodium(Na) and Chlorine (CI) want to form a lonic Bond?
miskamm [114]

Answer: to achieve a stable octet of electrons in their outer shell

Explanation:

- Sodium (Na) has an atomic number of 11, and an electronic configuration of 1s2, 2s2 2p6, 3s1.

- Chlorine (CI) Sodium (Na) has an atomic number of 17, and an electronic configuration of 1s2, 2s2 2p6, 3s2 3p5.

Hence, sodium donates its single valence electron to chlorine, thereby achieving a stable octet structure of 1s2, 2s2 2p6 while chlorine accept the single electron also forming a stable octet structure of 1s2, 2s2 2p6, 3s2 3p6. Therefore, the reaction yields NaCl, an ionic compound with ionic (electrovalent) bond.

Na + Cl --> NaCl

Thus, Sodium(Na) and Chlorine (CI) want to form a lonic Bond because both acheive a completely filled outermost shell (octet structure)

A deer walks 17.0 m south and then 12.0 m north. Find both the magnitude of its displacement and the distance traveled.
Zepler [3.9K]

Answer:

Explanation:

Displacement involves direction and distance.  In this case, the deer has walked a distance of 17 + 12 = 29m but because of the South-then-North direction, the net displacement is only 17-12 = 5m.

So the answer is A)   5.0 m, 29.0 m
