Explanation :

Redox reaction or Oxidation-reduction reaction : It is defined as the reaction in which the oxidation and reduction reaction takes place simultaneously.

Oxidation reaction : It is defined as the reaction in which a substance looses its electrons. In this, oxidation state of an element increases. Or we can say that in oxidation, the loss of electrons takes place.

Reduction reaction : It is defined as the reaction in which a substance gains electrons. In this, oxidation state of an element decreases. Or we can say that in reduction, the gain of electrons takes place.

(a) The given chemical reaction is :

MnO_4^-+NO_2^-\rightarrow MnO_2+NO_3^-

The oxidation-reduction half reaction will be :

Oxidation : NO_2^-+2OH^-\rightarrow NO_3^-+H_2O+2e^-

Reduction : MnO_4^-+2H_2O+3e^-\rightarrow MnO_2+4OH^-

In order to balance the electrons, we multiply the oxidation reaction by 3 and reduction reaction by 2 then added both equation, we get the balanced redox reaction.

The balanced chemical equation in a basic solution will be,

2MnO_4^-+2H_2O+3NO_2^-\rightarrow 3MnO_2+6OH^-+2NO_3^-

(b) The given chemical reaction is :

MnO_4^{2-}\rightarrow MnO_4^-+MnO_2

The oxidation-reduction half reaction will be :

Oxidation : MnO_4^{2-}\rightarrow MnO_4^-+1e^-

Reduction : MnO_4^{2-}+2H_2O+2e^-\rightarrow MnO_2+4OH^-

In order to balance the electrons, we multiply the oxidation reaction by 2 and then added both equation, we get the balanced redox reaction.

The balanced chemical equation in a basic solution will be,

2MnO_4^{2-}+MnO_4^{2-}+2H_2O\rightarrow 2MnO_4^-+MnO_2+4OH^-

(c) The given chemical reaction is :

Br_2+SO_2\rightarrow Br^-+SO_4^{2-}

The oxidation-reduction half reaction will be :

Oxidation : SO_2+2H_2O\rightarrow SO_4^{2-}+4H^++2e^-

Reduction : Br_2+2e^-\rightarrow 2Br^-

The electrons in oxidation and reduction reaction are same. Now add both the equation, we get the balanced redox reaction.

The balanced chemical equation in a acidic solution will be,

Br_2+SO_2+2H_2O\rightarrow 2Br^-+SO_4^{2-}+4H^+

The electron configuration for neon (atomic number = 10) is NOT 1s22s12p6. Which of the following are reasons why? (Mark all tha
Inessa [10]

Answer:

The answer to your question is: B and C.

Explanation:

Neon atomic number = 10

Electron configuration is not : 1s²2s¹2p⁶ .

This electron configuration is for fluor (9 electrons) because is we sum up the electrons ( 2 + 1 + 6) the result is 9.

A)The 3s orbital should be part of the configuration. This is not the right reason.

B)The total number of electrons is incorrect. This correct, the number of electrons is 9 instead of 10.

C)The 2s orbital does not have enough electrons. This option is correct, 2s must have 2 electrons and it only has 1.

D) The 1s orbital does not have enough electrons. This option is incorrect, 1s orbital can have only 2 electrons.

Forrest spills some acid on the lab floor. He notifies his teacher and begins to look for baking soda to neutralize the acid on
riadik2000 [5.3K]

The other students in the lab should be notified next in this type of scenario.

What is an acid?

This is a substance which donates protons and is very corrosive. It also turns blue litmus paper red.

When it was spilled and baking soda was used to neutralize it on the floor , it is best to inform the other students too so as to prevent them from being exposed by mistake thereby reducing risk of injury.

An exciton is: A charged particle made of electrons A charged particle made of holes A neutral particle made of an electron and
Alex

Answer:

A neutral particle made of an electron and hole

Explanation:

Exciton

It is the combination of an electron and a hole ( hole refers to the vacancy of an electron ) . And , as both the electron and the hole have the same charge but the polarity is opposite , the combination will lead to a neutral compound , i.e. , Exciton have no charge and so neutral .

It is free to move in the nonmetallic crystal and since it charge less , it is difficult to detect it directly .

Explain why you hear a “whoosh” sound when you open a can containing a carbonated drink. Which gas law applies?
Lana71 [14]

Carbonated drinks have the air under pressure so that carbon bubbles are forced into the drink, keeping it carbonated. So when you open a can, the air under pressure in the can comes out of the can at a high speed, making a "whooshing" sound. The gas law that applies to this concept is the Boyle's Law (PV=k or P1V1=P2V2).
