Answer:

Δ S = 93.8 J/mol-K

Explanation:

Given,

Boiling point of chloroform = 61.7 °C

                                             = 273 + 61.7 = 334.7 K.

Enthalapy of vapourization = 31.4 kJ/mol.

Using Gibbs free   energy equation

Δ G = Δ H - T (ΔS)

at equilibrium (when the liquid is boiling), Δ G = 0

so,  0 = ΔH - T (Δ S)

      T (Δ S) = Δ H

and ΔS = ΔH / T

Δ S = (31400 J/mol.) / 334.7 K

Δ S = 93.8 J/mol-K

2. How much energy must be removed from a 50.0 g sample of steam in order to get it to condense
Strike441 [17]

Answer:

113 kJ or 113,000J

Explanation:

Since we are condensing it, a physical change in the state of matter is occurring. 113 kJ or 113,000J because of the following equation: Q = 2260 times 50.  2260 is the Heat of Vaporization constant.

A chemical reaction produced 177.3 grams of chlorine has (Cl²). What was the volume of the gas?
vichka [17]
Since there is so little information given, I will assume that we are at STP and i can use the conversion factor at STP--->> 22.4 Liters= 1 mol of gas

before we use this conversion, we need to convert the grams to moles using the molar mass of the molecule.

molar mass of Cl₂= 35.5 x 2= 71.0 g/ mol

177.3 g (1 mol/ 71.0 g)= 2.50 mol Cl₂

then we use the conversion to get the volume

2.50 mol Cl₂ (22.4 Liters/ 1 mol)= 55.9 Liters
