Compute the work required to launch a 1000-kg satellite vertically to a height of 1000 km. You may assume that the earth’s mass

is 5.98 x 10^24 kg and is concentrated at its center. Take the radius of the earth to be 6.37 x 10^6 m and G = 6.67 x 10^11 Nm2/kg2 .

Explanation:

In order to calculate the work from r = a to r = b we only need to convert 1000 km into 1,000,000 m.

Since, the given data is as follows.

           G = 6.67 \times 10^{-11} Nm/kg^{2}

        m_{1} = 5.98 \times 10^{24}

        m_{2} = 1000 kg

           a = 6.37 \times 10^{6} m

           b = 6.37 \times 10^{6} + 1,000,000

              = 7.37 \times 10^{6} m

Now, we will calculate the work as follows.

              W = Gm_{1}m_{2} [\frac{1}{a} - \frac{1}{b}]

                   = 6.67 \times 10^{-11} \times 5.98 \times 10^{24} \times 1000 [\frac{1}{6.37 \times 10^{6}} - \frac{1}{7.37 \times 10^{6}}]

                   = 8.50 \times 10^{9} J

thus, we can conclude that work required to launch the satellite is 8.50 \times 10^{9} J.

Identify two factors that determine the state of matter
vova2212 [387]
Two factors determine whether a substance is a solid, a liquid, or a gas: The kinetic energies of the particles (atoms, molecules, or ions) that make up a substance. Kinetic energy tends to keep the particles moving apart. The attractive intermolecular forces between particles that tend to draw the particles together.

Manuel is holding a 5kg box. How much force is the box exerting on him?In what direction
soldi70 [24.7K]
The force the box is exerting on Manuel is the weight of the box, downward:
W=mg=(5 kg)(9.81 m/s^2)=49.05 N
and this force is perfectly balanced by the constraint reaction applied by Manuel's hand, pushing upward.

Where must an object be placed to form an image 30.0 cm from a diverging lens with a focal length of 43.0 cm?
Schach [20]
Using lens equation;

1/o + 1/i = 1/f; where o = Object distance, i = image distance (normally negative), f = focal length (normally negative)

Substituting;

1/o + 1/-30 = 1/-43 => 1/o = -1/43 + 1/30 = 0.01 => o = 1/0.01 = 99.23 cm

Therefore, the object should be place 99.23 cm from the lens.
