Chemistry

Ions are electrically charged particles, meaning, that whenever any type of atom loses or gains electrons it is forming a new type of structure, or ion.

Metal atoms form postive ions, Non-Metals form negative ions.

The strongest type of bond that can occur between two ions, when they are oppositely charged, are Ionic Bonds. The most commonly known ionic bond is seen in Sodium and Chlorine, which when combined give us NaCl or Sodium Chlorine, aka Salt.

+1 charge = Group 1, Metals

+2 charge = Group 2, Alkali Metals

-1 charge = Group 17, Halogens

Provided is a periodic table marked with the charges for each group.

How many liters are there in 0.500 g Hydrogen (H2)?
zysi [14]

Answer

3.65 liters is the volume of H₂ produced in the reaction

Explanation:

2 Al(s) + 6 HCI (aq) → 2AICI₃ (aq) + 3 H₂ (g)

I'll convert the mass of Al to moles.

2.93 g . 1mol/26.98 g = 0.108 moles

Ratio is 2:3. 2 moles of Al can produce 3 moles of H₂

Then, 0.108 moles of Al would produce (0.108 .3)/ 2  = 0.163 moles of H₂ Let's apply the Ideal Gases Law to find out the produced volume, at STP.

STP is 1 atm as pressure and 273K as T°

1 atm . V = 0.163 mol . 0.082L.atm/mol.K . 273K

V = (0.163 mol . 0.082L.atm/mol.K . 273K) / 1atm

V = 3.65 L

A substance joined by this type of bond will conduct electricity when in?
Luba_88 [7]

Answer:

C.) If the solid is conductive, the bonds are metallic.

1) Substances with ionic bond conduct an electric current in liquid, but not in solid state, because in liquids ions are mobile, contrary to solids where ions are fixed.

2) Substances with covalent bond not conduct an electric current in liquid and solid state, because they not have free ions or electrons.

3) Substances with metallic  bond conduct an electric current in liquid and solid state, because they have mobile electrons. Most metals have strong metallic bond, because strong electrostatic attractive force between valence electrons (metals usually have low ionization energy and lose electrons easy) and positively charged metal ions.
