If a beam of white light in air strikes a sheet of this glass at 66.0 ∘∘ with the normal in air, what will be the angle of dispe

rsion between the extremes of visible light in the glass? In other words, what will be the angle between extreme red and extreme violet light in the glass?

Answer:

The angle between the extreme red and extreme violet light in the glass is 1.18°

Explanation:

According the Snell's law:

n_{a} sin\theta _{a} =n_{b} sin\theta _{b}\\\theta _{b} =sin^{-1}  (\frac{n_{a}sin\theta  a}{n_{b} } )

Where

na = refractive index of air = 1

θa = angle of incidence in air = 66°

For red light nb = 1.61

Replacing:

\theta _{b} =sin^{-1} (\frac{1*sin66}{1.61} )=34.57

For violet light nb = 1.66

\theta _{b} =sin^{-1} (\frac{1*sin66}{1.66} )=33.39

So, the angle between the extreme red and extreme violet light in the glass is 34.57-33.39 = 1.18°

A ball with an initial velocity of 12 m/s is rolling up a hill. The ball accelerates at a rate of -2.6 m/s/s.
Anon25 [30]

Answer:

4.61 seconds

Explanation:

Given data

Initial velocity= 12m/s

acceleration= -2.6m/s^2

From the given data

we can find the time t

we know that

Acceleration= velocity/time

time= velocity/acceleration

time= 12/2.6

time= 4.61 seconds

A 1.80-m string of weight 0.0126 N is tied to the ceiling at its upper end, and the lower end supports a weight W. Neglect the v
Veseljchak [2.6K]

Answer:

W = 0.135 N

Explanation:

Given:

- y (x, t) = 8.50*cos(172*x -2730*t)

- Weight of string m*g = 0.0126 N

- Attached weight = W

Find:

The attached weight W given that Tension and W are equal.

Solution:

The general form of standing mechanical waves is given by:

                            y (x, t) = A*cos(k*x -w*t)

Where k = stiffness and w = angular frequency

Hence,

                           k = 172 and w = 2730

- Calculate wave speed V:

                            V = w / k = 2730 / 172 = 13.78 m/s

- Tension in the string T:

                            T = Y*V^2

where Y: is the mass per unit length of the string.

- The tension T and weight attached W are equal:

                           T = W = Y*V^2 = (w/L*g)*V^2

                            W = (0.0126 / 1.8*9.81)*(13.78)^2

                            W = 0.135 N
