Answer:

t = 20.96 seconds

Explanation:

given,

lightning strikes at = 4.5 mi( 23,760 ft)

air temperature =74.0°F

74.0°F = 23.3 °C

speed of the sound at 23.3 °C

V = 331.5 + 0.6 × T

V = 331.5 + 0.6 × 23.3

   = 345.48 m/s

distance given = 4.5 mile

1 mile = 1609.4

4.5 mile = 4.5 × 1609.4 = 7242.3 m

time taken =

t =\dfrac{d}{v}

t =\dfrac{7242.3}{345.48}

t = 20.96 seconds

hence, time taken by the sound to reach by the observer is 20.96 sec.

Sounds travels in a ____ wave A. Transverse B. Compressional C. Surface D. Inverted
MissTica

Answer: A. Transverse

Explanation:

Sound is a mechanical transverse wave, it travels faster in solids than in liquids or gases. This is because the speed of the mechanical waves is determined by a relationship between the elastic properties of the medium in which they are propagated and the mass per unit volume of the medium.

In addition, the speed of sound varies with changes in the temperature of the medium. This is because an increase in temperature means that the frequency of interactions between the particles that transport the vibration increases, hence this increase in activity increases the speed.

Hence:

Why do seat belts help protect passengers when a car stops quickly? Explain your answer in terms of forces and motions.
Mamont248 [21]

Answer:

If the driver is wearing a seat belt, the seat belt rather than the windshield applies the unbalanced force that stops the driver's forward motion. The force from the seat belt is applied over a longer time, so the force causes less damage.
