Li2O.. Because Li is +1 and O2 is -2

Explanation:

Atomic number of lithium is 3 with electronic distribution 2, 1. So, to attain stability lithium loses 1 electron and becomes Li^{+} ion.

Atomic number of oxygen is 8 with electronic distribution 2, 6. So, to attain stability oxygen needs to gain two electrons and thus becomes O^{2-} ion.

Therefore, a neutral molecule will have charges balanced between the combining atoms.

Hence, when lithium and oxygen atoms combine together then they will form compound Li_{2}O.

Lelu [443]

Answer:

Sample A - mixture

Sample B- Mixture

Explanation:

Looking at sample A, we can see that as water was poured over sample A, the sample was separated into its components as the powder disappeared leaving behind a gritty black sand-like material on the surface of the paper. A separation of the mixture has taken place.

In sample B, we can clearly see that it is a mixture because the amount of solid recovered is much less than the total mass of the solid put into the beaker. The sample must have been separated into its components.

Based on your knowledge of oxygen ion and that Iron can exist as a +2 or a +3 ion. In the formula FeO, what is the charge of the
DerKrebs [107]

Answer:

+2

Explanation:

Oxygen ions always have the charge of -2. Since Fe is in the transition metal stage, it doesn't have a specific set of ions unless specifically shown. In the equation FeO, we would have to have a +2 charge when equalling the two atoms together. So when combines the charges would look like:

Fe_{+2} + O_{-2} = FeO
