Running on a treadmill is slightly easier than running outside because there is no drag force to work against. Suppose a 60 kg r

unner completes a 5.0 km race in 19minutes.
Determine the drag force on the runner during the race. Suppose that the cross section area of the runner is 0.72 m2 and the density of air is 1.2 kg/m3.

What is this force as a fraction of the runner's weight?

Answer:

Part A.1) The drag force on the runner is 8.33N .

Part A.2 ) The fraction of the drag force to the runner’s weight is 0.014 .

Explanation:

Drag force acts opposite to the direction of the of motion of an object or body. It tends to oppose the motion of the body. The drag force on the runner acts to oppose the motion of runner while he runs. This drag force depends on the speed of runner.

Solution:

Consider the drag coefficient for the runner is approximately 11 .

Write the expression for the speed of the runner.

v=  d/t

Substitute  5 km for d, and 19 min. for t;

V=\frac{5*1000}{19}

 V=4.39 m/s

Write the expression for the drag force on the runner.

 F_{d} =  0.5ρAv² C_{d}

subtitute A=0.72 m², ρ=1.2 kg/m³ ,   C_{d}  =1 and v= 4.39 m/s

  F_{d} = (0.5)*1.2*0.72* 4.39*1

  F_{d} = 8.33 N

Part A.1

The drag force on the runner is 8.33N .

(A.2)

Write the expression for the weight of the runner

     w = mg

Here, w is the weight of the runner, g is acceleration due to the gravity, and mm is the mass of the runner.

     m=60 kg ; 9.81m/s² for g

      w= ( 60*9.81 )

      w=588.6 N

The fraction of the drag force to the runner’s weight can be calculated as,

f=   (F_{d} )/ (w)

Here, ff is the drag force as a fraction of runner’s weight.

            f= (8.33) / (588.6)

            f=0.014

An unstrained horizontal spring has a length of 0.26 m and a spring constant of 180 N/m. Two small charged objects are attached
MakcuM [25]

Answer:

a)

two like charges always repel each other while two unlike charges attract each other. Since the spring stretches by 0.039 m, the charges have the same sign. both charges are positive(+) or Negative (-)

b)

both q1 and q1 are 8.35 × 10⁻⁶ C or -8.35 × 10⁻⁶ C

Explanation:

Given that;

L = 0.26 m

k = 180 N/m

x = 0.039 m

a)

we know that two like charges always repel each other while two unlike charges attract each other. Since the spring stretches by 0.039 m, the charges have the same sign.

b)

Spring force F = kx

F = 180 × 0.039

F = 7.02 N

Now, Electrostatic force F = Keq²/r²

where r = L + x = ( 0.26 + 0.039 )

we know that proportionality constant in electrostatics equations Ke = 9×10⁹ kg⋅m3⋅s−2⋅C−2

so from the equation; F = Keq²/r²

Fr² = Keq²

q = √ ( Fr² / Ke )

we substitute

q = √ ( 7.02 N × ( 0.26 + 0.039 )² / 9×10⁹ )

q = √ ( 7.02 N × ( 0.26 + 0.039 )² / 9×10⁹ )

q =  √ (0.627595 / 9×10⁹)

q = √(6.97 × 10⁻¹¹)

q = 8.35 × 10⁻⁶ C

Therefore both q1 and q1 are 8.35 × 10⁻⁶ C or -8.35 × 10⁻⁶ C

A car traveling at 27.4 m/s hits a bridge abutment. A passenger in the car, who has a mass of 65.0 kg, moves forward a distance
Minchanka [31]

Answer:

F=43570.9N

Explanation:

We can calculate the acceleration experimented by the passenger using the formula v_f^2=v_i^2+2ad, taking the initial direction of movement as the positive direction and considering it comes to a rest:

a=\frac{v_f^2-v_i^2}{2d}=\frac{-v_i^2}{2d}

Then we use Newton's 2nd Law to calculate the force the passenger of mass m experimented to have this acceleration:

F=ma=\frac{-mv_i^2}{2d}

Which for our values is:

F=\frac{-(65kg)(27.4m/s)^2}{2(0.56m)}=43570.9N

A radio frequency identification application would most likely interface with a (an):_________
Irina-Kira [14]

A radio frequency identification application would most likely interface with an Operational Data Store.

The Operations Data Store (ODS) is a central database that provides the latest data snapshots from multiple transaction systems for operational reporting.

It allows organizations to combine data in its original format from various sources into a single destination to provide business reporting.

ODS contains integrated updates from operational sources and supports business intelligence (BI) tools to facilitate tactical decision making.

For example, an administrator can configure ODS to pull weekly batches of data from a billing application that is rarely updated, importing individual transaction records as they occur in the sales database(thanks to these database triggers), then combine the two into new relational tables.

As a result, querying and reporting on operational data in ODS comes with the assurance that these integrated tables contain the latest and most relevant snapshots of the business.
