A spherical shell of radius 3.59 cm and a cylinder of radius 7.22 cm are rolling without slipping along the same floor. The two

objects have the same mass. If they are to have the same total kinetic energy, what should the ratio of the spherical shell's angular speed to the cylinder's angular speed be?

Answer:

(ω₁ / ω₂) = 1.9079

Explanation:

Given

R₁ = 3.59 cm

R₂ = 7.22 cm

m₁ = m₂ = m

K₁ = K₂

We know that

K₁ = Kt₁ + Kr₁ = 0.5*m₁*v₁²+0.5*I₁*ω₁²

if

v₁ = ω₁*R₁

and

I₁ = (2/3)*m₁*R₁² = (2/3)*m*R₁²

∴    K₁ = 0.5*m*ω₁²*R₁²+0.5*(2/3)*m*R₁²*ω₁²   <em>(I)</em>

then

K₂ = Kt₂ + Kr₂ = 0.5*m₂*v₂²+0.5*I₂*ω₂²

if

v₂ = ω₂*R₂

and

I₂ = 0.5*m₂*R₂² = 0.5*m*R₂²

∴    K₂ = 0.5*m*ω₂²*R₂²+0.5*(0.5*m*R₂²)*ω₂²   <em>(II)</em>

<em>∵   </em>K₁ = K₂

⇒   0.5*m*ω₁²*R₁²+0.5*(2/3)*m*R₁²*ω₁² = 0.5*m*ω₂²*R₂²+0.5*(0.5*m*R₂²)*ω₂²

⇒  ω₁²*R₁²+(2/3)*R₁²*ω₁² = ω₂²*R₂²+0.5*R₂²*ω₂²

⇒  (5/3)*ω₁²*R₁² = (3/2)*ω₂²*R₂²

⇒  (ω₁ / ω₂)² = (3/2)*R₂² / ((5/3)*R₁²)

⇒  (ω₁ / ω₂)² = (9/10)*(7.22/ 3.59)²

⇒  (ω₁ / ω₂) = (7.22/ 3.59)√(9/10)

⇒  (ω₁ / ω₂) = 1.9079

A worker on the roof of a house drops his 0.46 kg hammer, which slides down the roof at constant speed of 9.88 m/s. The roof mak
nekit [7.7K]

Answer:

The horizontal distance travelled in that time lapse is 12.94 m

Explanation:

In order to solve this problem, we'll need:

  1. The horizontal speed
  2. the time the hammer takes to fall from the roof to the ground

At the lowest point of the roof, the hammer has a 9.88 m/s speed that makes an angle of 27° with the horizontal, so we can calculate the horizontal and vertical speed with trigonometry. If we take right as x positive and down as y positive we get

v_{x}=v*cos(27)=9.88 m/s *cos(27)=8.80 m/s \\v_{y}=v*sen(27)=9.88 m/s *sen(27)=4.49 m/s

Now, we make two movement equation as we have a URM (no acceleration) in x and an ARM (gravity as acceleration) in y. We will wisely pick the lowest point of the roof as the origin of coordinates

x(t)=8.8 m/s *t

y(t)=4.49m/s*t+\frac{1}{2}*9.8m/s^{2}*t^{2}

Now we calculate the time the hammer takes to get to the floor

17.1m=4.49m/s*t+\frac{1}{2}*9.8m/s^{2}*t^{2}\\t=1.47s or t=-2.38s

Now, we keep the positive time result and calculate the horizontal distance travelled

x(1.47s)=8.8m/s*1.47s=12.94m

Why is the meteor shower is best observed after midnight?
harkovskaia [24]

Answer:

At dawn your location on earth is pointed straight in the direction of the Earth's travel in its orbit.  Between midnight and dawn you are moving head-on through the location of the meteors in space, which means that you will, on average, observe more of them.

You are pushing a 60 kg block of ice across the ground. You exert a constant force of 9 N on the block of ice. You let go after
kotykmax [81]

Answer: d = 33 cm or 0.33 m

Explanation: In physics, Work is the amount of energy transferred to an object to make it move. It can be expressed by:

W = F.d.cosθ

F is the force applied to the object, d is the displacement and θ is the angle formed between the force and the displacement.

For the ice block, the angle is 0, i.e., force and distance are at the same direction, so:

W = F.d.cos(0)

W = F.d

To determine d:

d = \frac{W}{F}

d = \frac{3}{9}

d = 0.33 m

The distance d the block ice moved is 33 cm.

A car of mass 800kg travels a distance of 40m at constant speed in a duration of 2.0s. The car exerts a forward force of 15kN.
Alex17521 [72]

W = F × s

W = 15kN × 40 m

W = 15.000 N × 40 m

W = 600.000 J

P = W/t

P = 600.000 J/2 s

P = 300.000 Watt

P = 300kWatt
