11

Multiple-Concept Example 11 provides some pertinent back- ground for this problem. A pendulum is constructed from a thin, rigid,

and uniform rod with a small sphere attached to the end opposite the pivot. This arrangement is a good approximation to a simple pendulum (period ???? 0.66 s), because the mass of the sphere (lead) is much greater than the mass of the rod (aluminum). When the sphere is removed, the pendulum is no longer a simple pendulum, but is then a physical pendulum. What is the period of the physical pendulum?

Answer:

T = 0.54 s

Explanation:

When physical pendulum is a system of rod and sphere then we will have

\tau = I\alpha

so we will have

(MgL + \frac{mgL}{2})\theta = (\frac{mL^2}{3} + ML^2)\alpha

so we will have

\alpha = \frac{(M + \frac{m}{2})g}{(\frac{m}{3} + M)L}\theta

since mass of ball is much higher than the mass of rod

so we have

T = 0.66 s = 2\pi\sqrt{\frac{L}{g}}

now when we use the rod as physical pendulum then we have

M = 0

\alpha = \frac{g/2}{L/3}\theta

so we have

T = 2\pi\sqrt{\frac{2L}{3g}}

so its time period is given as

T = (\sqrt{\frac{2}{3}})0.66

T = 0.54 s

A block of mass 10kg is moved at a constant speed through a horizontal distance of 4m, by applying a force 50N. How much work ha
algol13

Answer:

Explanation:

given that

mass = 10kg

distance = 4m

force = 50N

to calculate the workdone when the force is applied in the same direction of displacement

mathematically,

workdone = force × distance

Workdone = 50 × 4

workdone = 200 joules

2) to calculate the workdone at an angle of 30° with the displacement we apply the formula

workdone = force × distance × cos Ф

workdone = 50 × 4 × cos 30°

workdone = 200 × 0.866

workdone = 173 . 2 joules

AlexFokin [52]

Answer:

Cools ; size

Explanation:

The rate at which magma cools determines the size of the crystals in the new rock. Igneous rocks are formed from the cooling and solidification of molten magma which finds its way to the surface or depth of very low pressure beneath the surface. This place or depth of cooling of magma affects the cooling rate and hence the size of the crystals formed. Igneous rocks formed at depths below the surface have more time to cool and allows more time for Crystal growth and hence produce coarse grained crystal grains called Intrusive igneous rocks which have significantly larger crystals than those formed on the surface which cools rapidly and allowing very little time for crystal growth giving rise to the formation of fine grained crystals and are called extrusive igneous rocks.
