An ambitious statistical-education researcher wants to analyze the typical statistical skills of STEM (science, technology, engi

neering, and math) majors across the country. They have an exam they plan on giving to sampled college students who are majoring in a STEM field, but they need to choose how to sample college students.
Which of the following are considered good sampling methods? Select one or more:

a. The researcher can go to their local university and get all the STEM majors there to take the exam.
b. The researcher can randomly pick 10 universities and get all the STEM majors at those randomly chosen universities to take the exam.
c. Assuming the researcher can get such a list, they can sort STEM majors into those attending private or public universities. They can then pick 30 randomly chosen students from those attending private universities and 30 from public universities.
d. Assuming the researcher can get such a list, they can sort STEM majors into those whose last names start with an A-K and those whose last names start with an L-Z. They can then randomly pick 30 students from each list.
e. Assuming the researcher can get such a list, they can randomly pick 60 STEM majors from across the country.

Answer:

Option b, c and e are wonderful approaches to solve the problem.

Step-by-step explanation:

Option (b) is appropriate this is because the option is talking about Simple random sampling where random universities are chosen to remove bias.

Option (c) is correct because this is an example of Stratified sampling where two homogenous groups (private and public universities are considered) and samples are chosen at random to remove bias

Option (e) is correct because this again is an example of Simple random sampling where 60 random STEM majors are chosen at random.

At Luther's party she made three balloon poodles and two balloon giraffes Which used a total of 17 balloons for Jessica‘s party
olga55 [171]

Answer:

The redaction does not explain the situation.  If we assume that 15 balloons were used to make one ballon poodle and three giraffes, then the answer would be 7,5 balloons for 1 poodle, and 2,5 balloons for a giraffe

Step-by-step explanation:

With 15 balloons we make 1 poodle and 3 giraffes.  This means that 7,5 balloons were used to make 1 poodle, and other 7,5 balloons were used to make 3 giraffes.

If we divide   7,5 balloons between 3, we obtain 2,5.  This means that with 2,5 balloons we make 1 giraffe

Anybody know the answer?
marysya [2.9K]
I'd start by writing an equation for each of the right triangles. (Pythagorean theorem)

y² + 9² = z²
x² + z² = (4+9)²
4² + y² = x²

we want to find z so combine the equations by substituting the other variables x,y out.

substitute y² for (x² - 4²) in 1st equation.

(x² - 4²) + 9² = z²

now by rearranging the 2nd equation we can substitute x² for (13² - z²)

(13² - z²) - 4² + 9² = z²
169 - z² - 16 + 81 = z²
234 - z² = z²
234 = 2z²
234/2 = z²
117 = z²
√(117) = z
√(9*13) = z
3√(13) = z

What value correctly fills in the blank so that the expressions are equivalent?
Rasek [7]

Answer:

8

Step-by-step explanation:

Notice:

32 = (8 x 4)

72 = (8 x 9)

Hence,

32 + 72

= (8 x 4) + (8 x 9)       (factorize out the 8)

= 8 x (4 + 9)

therefore the musing number is 8
