At 20 °C the vapor pressure of pure benzene (C6H6) is 75.0 torr, and that of toluene (C7H8) is 22.0 torr. Assume that benzene an

d toluene form ideal solutions. What is the mole fraction of benzene in a solution that has a (total) vapor pressure of 55.0 torr at 20 °C?

Answer:

mole fraction benzene = 0.62

mole fraction toluene   = 0.38

Explanation:

Raoults law for ideal solutions tells us that the totoal vapor pressure of the solution will be given by adding the partial pressures of the components of  the solution and the partial pressures are simply given by the product of the component in solution times its pure vapor pressure at the temperature given:

<h2>p total = x₁  P⁰₁ + x₂  P⁰₂</h2>

where x1 and x2 for this solution denote the mole fractions of  benzene and toluene and p⁰ ₁, p⁰₂ the vapor pressures of benzene and toluene respectively.

Solving the algebraic equation:

75 x₁ + 22 x₂  = 55

75 x₁ + 22 ( 1- x₁) = 55   (since x₁ + x₂ = 1)

75 x₁ + 22 - 22 x₁ = 55

53 x₁  = 33

x₁ = 0.62

x₂ = 1 - 0.62 = 0.38

In a living organism, what is a tissue
Rus_ich [418]

Answer:

Tissue is a group of cells.

Explanation:

Human body tissue consists of groups of cells with a similar structure working together for a specific function.

Human body tissue is another way of describing how our cells are grouped together in a highly organized manner according to specific structure and function. These groupings of cells form tissues, which then make up organs and various parts of the body. For example, it's easy to see and feel muscle in the body. Muscle is one of the four types of human body tissue. In this lesson, learn more about the types of tissue and how each functions for a different purpose.

If titanium is irradiated with light of 233 nm, what is the maximum possible kinetic energy of the emitted electrons?
Vsevolod [243]

Answer:

K=1.61×10−19 J

Explanation:

In the question data given is as follows:

   Wavelength of the is given as light (λ)=233 nm

  while the worrk-function of the titanium given as (ϕ)=6.93×10−19 J

but for the energy imparted due to the light will now be

E=hcλE, then

E=hcλE=(6.63×10−34)(3×108) / 233×10−9

E=8.536×10−19 J

Now, the energy imparted is given by

E= ϕ + K

8.536×10−19= (6.93×10−19) + K

K=1.61×10−19 J

Then,

K is the kinetic energy of the electrons

The pressure of a gas sample was measured to be 654 mmhg. What is the pressure in kpa? (1 atm = 1. 01325 × 10 5 pa)
Stels [109]

Taking into account the change of units, the pressure of the gas sample is 87.19 kPa.

<h3>What is rule of three</h3>

In first place, the rule of three is a way of solving problems of proportionality between three known values and an unknown value, establishing a relationship of proportionality between all of them.

That is, what is intended with it is to find the fourth term of a proportion knowing the other three.

If the relationship between the magnitudes is direct, that is, when one magnitude increases, so does the other (or when one magnitude decreases, so does the other) , the direct rule of three must be applied.

To solve a direct rule of three, the following formula must be followed, being a, b and c known data and x the variable to be calculated:

a ⇒ b

c ⇒ x

So: c=\frac{cxb}{a}

<h3>Pressure</h3>

The direct rule of three is the rule applied in this case where there is a change of units.

To perform in this case the conversion of units, you must first know that:

  • 1 atm= 760 mmHg
  • 1 atm = 1. 01325×10⁵ Pa= 101325 Pa
  • 1 kPa= 1000 Pa

So, if 1 atm is 760 mmHg, how many atm equals 654 mmHg?

760 mmHg ⇒ 1 atm

654 mmHg ⇒ x

So: x=\frac{654 mmHgx1 atm}{760 mmHg}

Solving:

<u><em>x=0.86 atm</em></u>

Now, if 101325 Pa are 1 atm, how many Pa equals 0.86 atm?

1 atm ⇒ 101325 Pa

0.86 atm ⇒ x

So: x=\frac{0.86 atmx101325 Pa}{1 atm}

Solving:

<u><em>x= 87,192.83 Pa</em></u>

Finally, if 1 kPa is 1000 Pa, how many kPa equals 87,192.83 Pa?

1000 Pa ⇒ 1 kPa

87,192.83 Pa ⇒ x

So: x=\frac{87,192.83 Pax1 kPa}{1000 Pa}

Solving:

<u><em>x=87.19283 kPa≅ 87.19 kPa</em></u>

In summary, the pressure of the gas sample is 87.19 kPa.

Experiments have shown that the equilibrium constant Kp for the reaction NO(g) + NO2(g) ⇌ N2O3(g) is 0.03. A chamber with a cons
zepelin [54]

Answer:

The reaction will shift to the right

Explanation:

In the reaction:

NO(g) + NO₂(g) ⇌ N₂O₃(g)

Kp of reaction is:

kP = \frac{P_{N_2O_3} }{P_{NO}P_{NO_{2}}} = 0.03

<em>Where P represents the pressures in equilibrium</em>

Replacing in the kP formula the initial pressures:

\frac{50MPa}{200MPa*250MPa} = 0.001

As the <em>Reaction quotient (Q) </em>is less than kP, <em>the reaction will shift to the right </em>producing more N₂O₃ until Q = kP.
