An 80-cm uniform 10-kg bar is resting on two scales, one at either end. A smaller 4-kg mass (m) is placed at a distance of d = 2

0 cm from the left end. Because the mass is closer to the left scale, it reads a higher weight than the right scale. What is the difference between the weights read by the two scales (left scale minus right scale)?

Answer

given,

length of bar = 80 cm

mass of the bar = 10 kg

smaller mass = 4 kg

distance = 20 cm

s_1 + s_2 = 10 + 4

s_1 + s_2 = 14\ kg

taking moment about B

s_1 \times 0.8 - 10 \times 0.4 - 4 \times 0.6 = 0

s_1 \times 0.8 = 6.4

s_1 = 8\ N

s_2 = 14 - s_1

s_2 = 14 - 8

s_2 = 6 N

difference between two scale = 8 - 6

                                                  = 2 N

The power of the kettle was 2.6 kW
faltersainse [42]

Answer:

Cp = 4756 [J/kg*°C]

Explanation:

In order to calculate the specific heat of water, we must use the equation of energy for heat or heat transfer equation.

Q = m*Cp*(T_f - T_i)/t

where:

Q = heat transfer = 2.6 [kW] = 2600[W]

m = mass of the water = 0.8 [kg]

Cp = specific heat of water [J/kg*°C]

T_f  = final temperature of the water = 100 [°C]

T_i = initial temperature of the water = 18 [°C]

t = time = 120 [s]

Now clearing the Cp, we have:

Cp = Q*t/(m*(T_f - T_i))

Now replacing

Cp = (2600*120)/(0.8*(100-18))

Cp = 4756 [J/kg*°C]

3. A ball is thrown straight up with an initial velocity of 40 m/s.
grandymaker [24]

Answer:

The velocity at the top of its path will be zero (0)

Explanation:

We can solve this problem or particular situation using the principle of energy conservation.

Which tells us that energy is transformed from kinetic energy to potential energy and vice versa. A reference point should be considered at which the potential energy is zero, and at this point the initial velocity of 40 [m/s] is printed to the ball.

Ek=Ep\\where:\\Ek=kinetic energy [J]\\Ep=potencial energy [J]

The potential energy is determined by:

Ep=m*g*h\\where:\\m=mass of the ball[kg}\\g=gravity[m/s^2]\\h=heigth [m]\\

The kinetic energy is determined by:

Ek=\frac{1}{2}*m*v_{0} ^{2}  \\where\\v_{0} = initial velocity[m/s]

Ek=Ep\\\frac{1}{2} *m*v_{0} ^{2} =m*9.81*h\\h=\frac{40^{2}}{2*9.81} \\h=81.5[m]

This will be the maximum path but, its velocity at this point will be zero. Because now all the kinetic energy has been transformed in potential energy.
