Answer

given,

Dubois formula

    S = 0.01 w^{0.25}h^{0.75}

a) mass = 60 Kg

   height = 1.6 m

     S = 0.01 \times 60^{0.25}\times 160^{0.75}

          S = 1.252 m²

   hence, surface area of a person is equal to 1.193 m² .

b) \dfrac{dw}{dt} = 0.4\ kg/year

   weight = 60 Kg

now,

    \dfrac{dS}{dt} = 0.01(0.25)(\dfrac{h}{w})^{0.75}\dfrac{dw}{dt}

    \dfrac{dS}{dt} = 0.01(0.25)(\dfrac{160}{60})^{0.75}\times 0.4

    \dfrac{dS}{dt} = 0.00209\ m^2/year

Zeros are always considered significant digits when they are to the left of the decimal point
maksim [4K]

Answer:

Zeros to the left of a decimal can be insignificant place holders, such as in 0.043 (two significant figures).

They can be significant if they are between two digits who themselves are significant, such as in 101.000 (three significant figures).

In the case of a number like 1,000 we can see there is only one significant figure. The zero digits are not between sigfigs.

2 a A pile of 60 sheets of paper is 6 mm high. Calculate the average thickness of a sheet of the paper.
fiasKO [112]

The average thickness of a sheet of the paper is 0.1 mm.

The number of ice blocks that can be stored in the freezer is 80 blocks of ice.

<h3>Average thickness of a sheet of the paper</h3>

The average thickness of a sheet of the paper is calculated as follows;

average thickness = 6 mm/60 sheets = 0.1 mm /sheet

Thus, the average thickness of a sheet of the paper is 0.1 mm.

<h3>Volume of each block of ice</h3>

Volume = 10 cm x 10 cm x 4 cm

Volume = 400 cm³

<h3>Volume of the freezer</h3>

Volume = 40 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm = 32,000 cm³

<h3>Number of ice blocks that can be stored</h3>

n = 32,000 cm³/400 cm³

n = 80 blocks of ice

Thus, the number of ice blocks that can be stored in the freezer is 80 blocks of ice.

Why is it hard to breathe when you go higher up
Fantom [35]

When we breathe in air at sea level, the atmospheric pressure of about 14.7 pounds per square inch (1.04 kg. per cm.2) causes oxygen to easily pass through selectively permeable lung membranes into the blood. At high altitudes, the lower air pressure makes it more difficult for oxygen to enter our vascular systems.

hope this helps :)
