The answer is (1) 8 valence electrons. Argon, being a noble gas, already possesses a full octet of valence electrons and is, therefore, very, very stable. It has an almost indomitable tendency to retain that octet. That is why it so rarely participates in any sort of bonding.

Neutrons =  Mass number - Atomic number ( protons)

Electrons are same number as protons unless the element has a charge..
If it has a charge of +2 it means that the element has 2 less electrons than the neutral atom. If it has a charge of -2 it means that the element has 2 more electrons than what it is supposed to..
