An ion with charge of Q = +3.2 x 10-19 C is in a region where a uniform electric field of magnitude E = 5.0 x 105 V/m is perpend

icular to a uniform magnetic field B = 0.80 T. If the ion's acceleration is zero then what is its speed v? a) v = 1.6 x 10-5 m/s b) v = 4.0 x 105 m/s c) v = 6.3 x 10 m/s d) V = 0 m/s

Answer:

speed is 6.3 × 10^5 m/s

Explanation:

given data

charge Q = +3.2 x 10^-19 C

uniform electric field E = 5.0 x 10^5 V/m

uniform magnetic field B = 0.80 T

acceleration = 0

to find out

speed

solution

we know here that acceleration = 0

so that force on uniform electric field E and uniform magnetic field B on charge particle = 0

so here force of magnitude will be equal

so we can say that

q×E = q×v×B .................1

so v= E / B

put here value

v = 5 ×10^5 / 0.80

v = 6.3 × 10^5

so speed is 6.3 × 10^5 m/s

Using energy considerations and assuming negligible air resistance, show that a rock thrown from a bridge 20.0 m above water wit
melamori03 [73]

Answer:

Explanation:

Given that,

Height of the bridge is 20m

Initial before he throws the rock

The height is hi = 20 m

Then, final height hitting the water

hf = 0 m

Initial speed the rock is throw

Vi = 15m/s

The final speed at which the rock hits the water

Vf = 24.8 m/s

Using conservation of energy given by the question hint

Ki + Ui = Kf + Uf

Where

Ki is initial kinetic energy

Ui is initial potential energy

Kf is final kinetic energy

Uf is final potential energy

Then,

Ki + Ui = Kf + Uf

Where

Ei = Ki + Ui

Where Ei is initial energy

Ei = ½mVi² + m•g•hi

Ei = ½m × 15² + m × 9.8 × 20

Ei = 112.5m + 196m

Ei = 308.5m J

Now,

Ef = Kf + Uf

Ef = ½mVf² + m•g•hf

Ef = ½m × 24.8² + m × 9.8 × 0

Ef = 307.52m + 0

Ef = 307.52m J

Since Ef ≈ Ei, then the rock thrown from the tip of a bridge is independent of the direction of throw

When the pendulum bob reaches the mean position, the net force acting on it is zero. Why then does it swing past the mean positi
ryzh [129]

Answer:

The pendulum bob swing past the mean position because:

When a pendulum's bob is accelerating at its extreme position its velocity is zero. Due to the restoring toque the bob starts to accelerates towards its mean postion. The maximum acceleration of the pendulum's bob is -w^{2} Aand the the acceleration decreases as -w^{2} x towards the mean position.

The acceleration at the mean position becomes zero but the velocity remains maximum. Hence the bob continues to move and does not stops.Thus it can summarised as the force decreases ,acceleration decreases and velocity increases at slow rate.
